Weather Update

It is the responsibility of responsible utility companies to keep updated on any potential of harsh weather that may be in our immediate forecast. One such utily company has had a phone conference with authorites at the National Weather Service in Dodge City. Here it is:

Today, Friday, will be the last of the nice weather for awhile.

Cold air will make it's appearance on Saturday to our area. The northwestern counties on I-70 will begin to get snow tomorrow evening. We can expect heavy snow, at least 4-6 inches, here from Sunday evening through Monday morning. Winds will be picking up which will cause blowing and drifting of the snow.

Following the snow storm is the deep freeze. Monday night, the low is expected to range from -5 on the northern side of the state to 5 above zero on the Oklahoma border. We'll be getting somewhere in the middle temps here. The winds will be from the north at 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. This will make the wind chills as low as -25 degrees.

These wind chill temperatures can cause exposed skin to be frost bitten in 30 minutes. Actual high temperatures may only reach single digits or low teens on Tuesday and Wednesday which is cold enough to burst pipes. My recommendation to you is to allow a thin stream of water to drip from your faucets during cold snaps such as this. Simply allowing drops of water to fall is not always a great idea.

As always, monitor the weather conditions and road conditions if traveling and make sure that you have your emergency kits on hand in your home and in your vehicles.

I'll keep you updated on any further details.
