Update on Our House

You already know that we purchased a new home on July 1st.  Ever since then, we've lived in a whirlwind.  It started by moving my mom to her new place, beginning the remodel of our new house and moving out of the old house that we had just sold.  I'd like to say that all is now complete but that would be an absolute lie.  Though we've been working very hard and diligently, much work remains for us to do.

While we were at the Wichita County Fair last week, we had the great opportunity of catching up with old and new friends.  It seems that thanks to my blog, everyone knows we've moved.  People were very interested in what we've been doing with the remodel, etc.  Several people asked us how soon we plan on painting over the banana yellow exterior paint.  LOL!!!  Well, that'll be awhile down the line, Folks.  The house was just painted last summer and is in great condition.  We have many other things that need to be done before that.

We'd also like to make a request.  If any of you, gardeners, out there have plants, bushes, shrubs, etc that you want to give away, PLEASE let us know!!!  We'll be quite willing to come over and dig them up!  Our new yard is HUGE and is in diar need of more plants.  We'd appreciate each and every plant offered to us!!!  Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love and Sympathy Needed

I ask for all of your love, support and prayers for the James Jaeger Family of Leoti.  Right now, many of their broken puzzle pieces are strewn all around.  They need to be placed just where they belong again.  It is definitely going to be anything but easy but this family is strong and knows the Lord completely.  In time, they will be stronger again.

Wichita County Free Fair

has been in progress since Wednesday morning and concludes at midnight tonight.  I always enjoy our awesome fair but I have to say that this is one of the very best ones as far as I am concerned.  MANY people have come from far and wide to take in this 4-day party that everyone from everywhere is welcome to attend.

The 2013 fair also included the all-school reunion that is observed once every four years.  That always brings bunches of people to the county.  You might be surprised to know that there are LOTS of people with absolutely no connections to this wonderful ccommunity of ours who are drawn to our celebration year after year because of its originality and friendliness.  At a time in history when having money available to purchase tickets for people to ride carnival rides is stressful, purchasing our tickets is much easier.  In Wichita County, one simple dollar bill buys you 4 tickets and each and every ride or amusement game requires but one ticket.  To my knowledge, this just might be the last Kansas county with a homegrown carnival to offer fun and safe rides at this price.

In order to keep these prices remarkably low, the labor must be CHEAP.  LOL!!!  Members of the Wichita County Amusement Association asks area people to run rides, games and food booths.  Our family always feels honored whenever we are asked to do our part.  This year, our family has worked with the Gliders, funnel cake booth, the duck pond, friendship band making, the quarter roll and selling tickets.  We've loved it!  While doing this, we have gotten to share fellowship with people from far and near.  Its just been wonderful!

I would just like to say "Thank you" to the Wichita County Fair Board, the Amusement Association and all of the volunteers for such an even better than normally great fair this year!!!  I cannot forget to thank the Wichita County Sheriff's Officers for always providing security and to our area EMTs and fire fighters for being available if ever needed.

THANK YOU!!!  THANK YOU!!!  THANK YOU!!!

Additional Fair Parking

Wichita County fairgoers will be happy to know that as of tonight, many more parking spaces are available.  In the past, a lack of these has caused considerable anguish.  The new parking is located at the back of the carnival and runs all of the way to the county road that borders the baseball fields and excess water drainage pond.

A BIG thank you goes out to anyone and everyone who is responsible for this!!!

Moving Update

Good afternoon!

Boy!  I feel like our lives have been tipped upside down for almost a month now.  Though I was in the hospital until late Monday afternoon, Stan, the girls, and many friends finally brought the last trailer full of boxes, furniture, etc to our new home yesterday.  If you helped us in this move, PLEASE know that we simply could not have done it without your very kind help!!!

I have a bunch of unpacking to do now.  Honestly, I don't even know where to begin.  LOL!!!  Stan and I have decided that this will be our last move until we move into the nursing home which will hopefully be a very long time into the future.

Before we began moving here, we purchased a brand new 6-burner stove, dishwasher and refrigerator with ice and water in the door.  We expected perfection with these new appliances but were very disappointed when our dishwasher's computer panel went out after less that 6 loads of dishes were washed.  The appliance store really let us down when they refused to allow us to trade this one for another new dishwasher.  Then the repairman was not good about fixing it in a timely manner.  I had no recoarse than to contact the manufacturer.  I found a WONDERFUL representative who totally understood our problem and went right to work in getting it resolved.  Thanks to her, the new panel was installed yesterday.  YAY!!!  But our story does not stop there.  Once that was done, the repairman determined that another component was no good.  He was to order it yesterday.  Can you say  L-E-M-O-N???  What's next??????

I'll tell you what's happening now.  I am contacting the same lady from the manufacturer to see what she recommends.  After spending a large amount of money on something like this, the least that you can expect is for it to work like it is supposed to.  Right???

So, anyway, things will be great sooner than later.  Now that we have all of our possessions in the same building, it'll be much easier to get things done.  If you are ever bored and would like to help, just let us know.  LOL!!!

Moving Progress

As you know, we sold our old house at the end of June and have been either moving my mother to her new house or ourselves ever since.  We are hoping that with the assistance of several of our frends who have worked tirelessly to get us moved to the new house, our move will be completed this weekend.

On evenings when we are not moving, Stan has been laying our wooden floor in the house.  It has been very time-consuming.  He began his work in the dining room a week ago.  I am happy to say that he has completed the floor in the dining room and kitchen.  His work has now begun in the living room.  It is BEAUTIFUL!  I just love the cherry color.

The girls and I have packed boxes at the old house and unpacked them at the new house.  In the heat of the day, we've been painting the living room, kitchen, dining room, 2 bathrooms, all three bedrooms and foyer.  I still have not begun the hallways or the reconditoning of the cabinets in the ktchen or bathrooms.  I hope to do that startng next week.

Not eveythng has been wonderful.  On July 3rd, we purchased all new appliances for the kitchen.  Since we were still living at both houses, we had done less than 6 loads of dishes at the new house when the computer board on the dishwasher BROKE!  So far, the replacement parts have not been installed and I am not a happy girl because of this.  I think it is ridiculous that a brand new appliance that we paid good money for is no longer working...

Please continue to keep us in your prayers for a very smooth conclusion to all of this.

Lynn's Update

We met with my neurologist yesterday to discsss the progress of my journey since February when I had my VNS surgery to help me with my epilepsy.  It has now been 6 months and the recovery has been amazng.

I went from havng a multitude of sezures every month to NONE.  For the first time since August of 1981, I no longer embarrass my family, friends or myself in public by my "losing it".  Gone are the day of people around me being concerned and having to call 9-1-1 for medical assistance.  Because of the fact I no longer have seizures, no additional damage is being done to my brain.

Though all of this is wonderfuly, there have been additonal positives.  The ongoing depression that I fought for many years, is practically all gone.  Since we began moving to the new house, it has gotten a bit worse just because  cannot handle the stress like "normal" people.  I thought it might all be in my head but as soon as my doctor found out yesterday that we were moving, she asked Stan and I about it.  She explained that that is one of the most dangerous times in an epileptic's life.  She told me that I had to slow way down and just let everyone bring everything to me at the new house.  After that, I should just take my timeputting it away so that I can relax more often.

We've been VERY fortunate and have had several friends volunteer to help us move the furniture, boxes, etc eto our new house.  I don't know what we would have done without them.  My brother-in-law has been helping us very often since the last part of June to get my mother's thngs moved out and our things moved in.  I describe him as being 3 tornados twisted into one man.  He is unbelievable at getting things accomplished in a very short amount of time.  We cannot thank of these people enough for their assistance.

I've lost 31 pounds since February.  I believe that thi is due to my depression lessening.  I no longer feel the need to stuff my woes away.  I have more much-needed energy.  My family told my doctor yesterday that  am a different person today.  I am much more enjoyable to be with and my sense of humor has returned to my everyday life.

As you can see, I owe the Lord VERY much for giving the intelligence and abilities to scientests and doctors for developing this treatment for epileptics.  Remember though, this is NOT a cure but it sure feels like it to me.  LOL!!!  I beg of you.  If you or someone you know has epilepsy, please check nto this.  It can mean a total lfe changing experience just as it has for me.  In many cases such as mine so far, the patient cannot go off of his/he ant-seizure medication but the recovery is so very much better than with medicatons alone.

I have another 6 months to go before my device's electricity level has reached its highest point.  My electricity was increased yesterday.  So far, my voice continues to get hoars whenever my electricity is being generated to my brain.  I had an increased cough yesterday which is also totally normal for awhile.    I feel a temporary lump in my neck from my left ear and down for a couple of mnutes whenever the energy is being transmitted.  All of this should lessen and possibly dsappear as time goes by.  Even if it doesn't for me, it's darned well worth it for me.  The positives definitely outweigh the negatves.

I thank those of you who have blessed me with your love and kindness throughout all of this snce 1981.  Without your support, I don't know how I would have made it this far...

Gathering for the Wichita County Fair

Just found out about this and I love the idea!  Some locals have decided to ask everyone interested to meet at the Old City Park on that Friday afternoon.  That morning will be the Old Settlers Breakfast.  Following that, people can get together and get caught up on each other's lives.  Over the past couple of years, the park has gone through a great metamorphosis.  A water fountain, BBQ grills, playground equipment, horse shoes game equipment and port-a-potties have been added.  I suggest you bring lawnchairs and/or blankets to sit on.

Have fun!

My Family and I

Over the past month or so, I have been on the computer very little.  You may be wondering why.  People have told me that rumors have been flying all over the place about why.  LOL!!!  Here is the real reason.

For most of the winter, we spent every available minute remodeling our three bedrooms at our house.  We really liked the results.  We were quite comfortable in our home of 13 years and had planned on living there for qute sometime longer.  But life happens and our plans can change quite quickly.

In this case, my mom happened to tour a local apartment and fell in love wth it.  Immediately she told me that she wanted to move there from her larger home.  She liked the idea of a maller place to clean and the fact that she would no longer have to care for the four lots where her home is located.  I couldn't blame her a bit.  She then asked us if we were interested in purchasing her home  We were.  So that is where our whirlwind began...

The following Sunday, we posted a For Sale sign in our front yard.  Starting the next day, we showed the house many times.  We even ended up with a biddng war!  I'd never thought that that would happen in our small town of Leoti.  It made us feel great!  A week after the sign was posted, we accepted the top bid.

Since then, we've been moving my mom's belongings that she wanted to keep into her new apartment.  She has been unable to help because she had knee replacement done.  We have moved everything out now.  Now the 2nd phase has begun:  remodelling and you know how much I L-O-V-E that!!!  Our new house was definitely liveable but there were some things we wanted to do to it before we moved everything here.  So far, Stan has replaced the two bathrooms' flooring with a gorgeous Allure product.  He still has more of it to lay in our laundry room. All of the old carpet has been ripped out now and Stan is just about ready to begin laying wood floor in the living room, dining room, the girls' bedrooms and he two hallways.  Before he can do that he has to yank out a built-in buffet in the dining room and an island out of the kitchen.  He plans on doing that today.

There are two matching BEAUTIFUL display cabinets in the dining room that we are keeping.  Each has four shelves.  I decided to do something interesting with them.  I've never done anything like it.  I painted all three interior sdes, the tops and the bottoms with none other that BLACK in an eggshell finish.  You're probably wondering why anyone would do that.  Right?  I decided to do that to really show off our collection of glassware and china that we don't have room for in our antique china closet.  I finished the painting yesterday.  Last night, I set up the dishes.  Gorgeous!!!  Its not finished yet though.  I still need to buy some lighting for each shelf to make the cabinets even more spectacular.  Already, we just love the results. I inherited my grandparents' antique buffet and china closet.  Believe it or not, but the buffet will fit between the two display cabinets just perfectly. Maybe you would like to try this in your own home?

You already know that Paint is my middle name!  I LOVE to paint.   So far, the main bathroom has been painted a beautiful cream color with just a tiny bit of green in it.  I am just about ready to finish putting the light milk chocolate color in the living room.  It is really going to look great with our furniture and drapes.  Soon, I will begin painting the dining room and kitchen.  After that, I need to paint our master bedroom a medium blue and our huge master bathroom the same color as our living room.  The girls are painting their rooms.  Leighlyn chose a gorgeous rose for three walls and a silver for the other wall in her bedroom.  Abigayle chose candy apple red for her bedroom.  I know. I know. It sounds terrible to many people but its beautiful.  She is decorating her room in Shabby Chic with large cabbage roses in her drapes and bedding.  When all is finished, it'll be a work of art.  Our 10-year-old is an unbelievable artist.  She incorporates her abilities into her bedroom designs.  We are quite proud of her.  I doubt that too many 10 year old girls really care much about the color and design of their bedrooms yet.

A lot of work is yet to come.  I plan on taking you with us on that journey.  Once the house has been completed, the landscaping will begin..

Oh, my!  You are probably wondering if I am ever returning here to write.  The answer is YES.  Many things are happening in my life right now.  Most are good.  Once I have most of them under control, I'll meet you back here and tell you about them.  In the meantime, please know that we are well.  The antibiotics seem to have cleared my pneumonia up really well.  I am still fatigued but that, too, will pass.
