Its an amazing world out there and its located on our very own planet--EARTH!!! Check it out! I think that you'll be amazed at what you'll learn. I was! I'd love to visit it someday, however, I prefer to wait until elevators are built in. Plus, it would be nice if some fast food restaurants and RESTROOMS were built somewhere on the OUTSIDE of this new discovery. Ha! Ha!
Seriously, it would be awful to ruin the beauty of what is already there. Maybe man can learn abit there to help our modern world.

Be prepared NOW!
As you know, earlier thisyear, many people nationwide and overseas came down with Swine Flu. Many of those people died. Right now,the H1N1, the virus formerly known as Swine Flu, has quieted itself. That won't last for long if health authorities are correct. They are expecting anywhere from 560,000 to 1.1 million people in Kansas ALONE will be infected with it during the next 2 years. Vaccines should be available by mid-October.
They are advising Americans to gather and set aside enough food for your family and yourself for 3-5 days just in case. You also need to keep adequate amounts of pain relievers and fever busters on hand. That way, you nor your family will be forced to leave your home to go get supplies therefore spreading your illness to others.
It is very important that you wash your hands often and well.
If you think that you are sick STAY HOME!!! If you suspect that you might have Swine Flu, do NOT go to the clinics, hospitals or emergency rooms as long as you are only having mild cases. If you are sick and have chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart problems, contact your doctors by phone to see what you should do next.
It is very possible that schools and daycare centers may be forced to close off and on during the next 2 years.
Please pray that the authorities are wrong and that the illness will not spread causing death and so much anguish.

Another JOY of being FAT
This morning, I got a call from the grade school secretary,Bev, notifying me that my little princess, Abigayle, had gotten to school without her glasses. It didn't take me long to find them on our foyer table. I rushed them to school. Once I got there, I discovered several strangers walking around the exterior of the school as well as inside the school. At first, I was concerned when I saw the first two strangers. Thankfully, I found two more strangers visiting with the principal, Dawn Haverfield-McKinney. Whew!!! That was a MAJOR relief to me!!! I believe that they are architects, etc who have come to town to begin the building of our new school. Given the fact that each of them has tape measures attached to themselves, was another good clue!
Now onto my joy!!!

Oh, mercy!!! Just one more happy moment not being a skinny-minny! How good can life get??? Ha! Ha!

Helen Smades--Happy News
Today, 09/09/09/, is full of wonderful news! Helen Smades is celebrating her 96th birthday!!! Happy Birthday, Helen!!! Can you imagine everything that Helen has witnessed first-handedly in her lifetime? Amazing! Also, can you imagine all of the people whom she has touched in one way or another along her journey? Helen, Mrs. Smades, was a school teacher for MANY years. Even though she retired from that a day or two ago, people still remember her as being one of their very favorite teachers. That says a lot for her! Even people who did not like school, loved Mrs. Smades!!!
My family was very fortunate to have had her as a dear neighbor. We all looked forward to her next visit! Actually, to my sisters, Lori and Lona Sue, and myself, she was more like a grandmother to us. What a wonderful role model she has been to so very many people!!!
Helen now lives in the nursing home in Leoti. She would LOVE to hear from each and every one of you! I would love to see everyone send her a card and write down at least one special moment that you shared with her. It would mean sooo very much to her and to her family!!! I'd also like to take this time to do abit of preaching. Time after time, I see people gather in churches to say their final good-byes to loved ones. Time after time, I hear people mention how much they regret not telling that person just how much they loved and appreciated him/her. Unfortunately, I carry that same guilt with me. I'm trying to change all of that now. Anyway, those things should be said NOW before it is too late for these loved ones.
Some say that greeting cards are just ridiculously priced. If you'll go to such stores as dollar stores, you'll find that you can pick one up for a whopping 50 cents or a dollar. Can't we all afford that when it will go so far to make someone else so happy???

Dennis Elder--09/09/09
Remember 09-09-09 as it is the day when Dennis gets to walk out of the Mayo Clinic once and for all! He had tests done yesterday that were so great that the rest of the tubes were removed from his body. Halelujah!!! Today they leave the hospital to come home!!!!!!!!!! I am assuming that after everything that they have been through, they'll need to make this trip in 2 days.
Dennis and Susan want everyone to know that their prayers are sooo appreciated. The prayers provided much-needed comfort and support when Dennis and Susan knew that God was listening to and answering each and every one of them.
Dennis is an extremely strong man. Going through all of the testing, surgery, etc. that he has had to go through is not easy. Many people would have just given up. He is a farmer through and through. It was very tough for him not being able to do his own harvest and the rest of his farming himself. Thank God for his friends and neighbors who jumped in there for him!
I honestly do not know how Susan has made it through all of this the way that she has. Prayers definitely gave her the strength. From the way that I understand it, they spent most of their time alone. I never could have done it. Maybe I am just too needy. Anyway, Susan, I for one am VERY proud of you. I am sure that I am not the only one... She was such an amazing cheerleader for Dennis. Anyone who knows Susan knows that she is a totally optimistic lady. We need a whole lot more people such as her!

Ovens vs. Crockpots
Yesteryear, most women did not work outside of their homes so it was fine to bake whatever needed to be cooked. However, few of us have the option of staying home today. Alot of families now opt for cooking with crockpots instead of running out to McDonalds every evening. If you have recipes that give baking instructions instead of crockpot instructions, here is how you easily convert.
Most crockpots cook at 200 degrees if placed on LOW. Their heat is 300 degrees when the dial is set for HIGH.
Oven suggestion for 15-30 minutes=Crockpot 1.5 hours on HIGH or 4-8 hours if placed on LOW.
Oven suggestion for 30-40 minutes=Crockpot 3-4 hours HIGH or 6-10 hours if placed on LOW.
Oven suggestion 50 minutes to 3 hours=Crockpot 4-6 hours on HIGH or 8-18 hours on LOW.
Most stews, pot roasts and other uncooked meat/poultry and vegetable combinations will require AT LEAST 8 hours on LOW or 4-6 hours on HIGH to be safe when eaten.

Don and Ramona (Reifschneider) Krenzel
Don and Ramona Krenzel celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 7th, 2009!!!
To celebrate this momentous occassion, the Mullens, Kevin and Kathy and their sons, Tanner and Tate, planned a weekend at the farm. Their children and grandchildren and a few other relatives enjoyed an evening picnic at their farm followed by a small fireworks display. On Sunday, balloons were released.
