Many of us remember Lindall Cox, a much-loved and respected educator and coach in the Wichita County School District. Most of us also know Scott Bjurstrom who was born and raised in Wichita County. Both men are current teachers and Cross Country Coaches in Holcomb, Kansas.
This past Saturday, October 31st, they led their team to take First Place at Wamego's 3A State Tournament! To make things even better, this was their second time to do it! They won First place in 2008 and 2009!!! Their school has now taken First place for 3 times in this decade!
Scott's very proud parents are Becky Brakey and Wayne Bjurstrom, both of Leoti.

Mary Ann Beeson--Scott City
Mary Ann was born on February, 8th, 1938 and passed away on October 31st, 2009 at the age of 71. She passed away at Parkview nursing Home in Scott City.
Survivors include her sister, Betty Eisenhour, of Scott City. She is survived by one nephew, Brett and his wife, Katie, of Scott City, two nieces, Jill and husband, Lance Tucker and niece, Jeanette and Steve Price of Leoti. She also has 7 great nieces and nephews and 7 great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 at The United Methodist Church in Scott City. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetary.
Friends may call from 10-8:00 on Tuesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Scott City.
Memorials may be sent to The First United Methodist Church or Silent Angels Animal Shelter of Leoti or Parklane Nursing Home of Scott City in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home.

Robert (Bob) Leon Simon
Bob Simon passed away on Friday, October 30th, 2009, at the Wichita County Long Term Care Center in Leoti. He was born on November 30th, 1931. He was 77. He married his wife, Mary Louise (Muggs) Berning, on May 11th, 1954. She since passed away.
Bob is survived by his companion, Lodusky Tricks of Garden City, his son and wife, Ed and Jana (Dierks) Simon of Marienthal, Jean and Steve Wells, Diana and Todd Long, Connie and Darren McRae, all of Leoti. He also has 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Vigil services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 02, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marienthal. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 03, 2009 at St. Mary's in Marienthal. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetary in Marienthal, Ks.

Girls' Cross Country Team
The WCHS Girls' Cross County Team took third place Saturday at the State level. Page Wells, a freshman, took SECOND place individually!

My mom's house
If you get a chance, take a drive by Mama's house. The terrible storm that swept through town in July, totalled out her roof, window screens and siding. She hired a company from Garden City to replace her roof and another company to hang her new siding. Both jobs are done now. To save her some money, our family decided to do her painting. She had already contracted her garage's painting to a local painter but we are doing the rest.
My baby sister, Lona Sue, drove up from Garden City on Saturday morning. Leighlyn, Abigayle and I met her at the house where we promptly put painting into motion. We painted all day. Lona Sue finished painting the front of the house. I still have to roll on at least one more coat on the back side and east side before all of the yellow paint will be finished. Then, we'll be ready to do the "white washin'".
Lori did what she does best--cooked for all of us!!!
Leif brought a couple of his friends over later in the afternoon to help in the yard. They hauled all of the old siding to the junkyard. Then, they went to work helping us with some major landscaping projects.
Mama's house actually looks like it just came alive! It's amazing what a new color will do on a house!!!
