A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was concerned about all of the dead coyotes that we had seen in fields between Leoti and Scott City one day. I am happy to say that I have not seen this problem since then! However, just this week, I had two different sets of people tell me that they are having some major problems with not one or two coyotes but PACKS of these wild animals in Wichita County.
These coyotes don't appear to be stand-offish around people. One man talked about how he had just put his indoor/outdoor dogs outside when he discovered a pack of 5 or 6 of them just a few yards from him. Noticing that they were "eyeing" his dogs, he gathered the pets up immediately and returned them to the house. While he was there, he picked up his shotgun and went outside. When he got outside, the coyotes seemingly hadn't moved a bit. He took aim and shot and killed one coyote. The rest of the pack ran away at that time.
A few days later, they had returned to the farmhouse. This time, the man just shot into the air and the coyotes fled. Fortunately, the family owns no fowl or other farm animals or they would surely have been in major peril. Of course, coyotes don't mind eating dogs and cats!
Another couple told me that they had found a new den of coyotes on their property southwest of Leoti. They said that there are a bunch of tracks all over the den but haven't seen anything go in or out of it as of yet.

Hard water problems?
We purchased a brand-new quality named dishwasher and quality kitchen stove last summer. We've had absolutely no problems with the stove but the dishwasher is a different story.
We've dealt with dishes being not as clean and spotless as I had expected. When you spend as much money on the machine as we did, I thought that there should hardly be any reason that we should have to "check" the dishes before we put them away. Within about 2 months after we bought it, we started noticing that dirt was being left on the dishes and in the glasses. Little by little and lot by lot, a not so great film began appearing on EVERYTHING that came out of the dishwasher. It got to be such a problem that I was having to handwash all of the so-called CLEAN glasses, etc to get the etching off of the glass. We also have some beautiful dark brown ceramic plates, bowls and coffee mugs that were becoming not so pretty over time.
As I've told you before, I have cleaned the dishwasher repeatedly to get the propellers and everything else clean so that we could get clean dishes in return. As a matter-of-fact, I had just done that last week. Yesterday, the film had reappeared. I was to the point that I was going to contact the manufacturer and do some complaining.
Then, today, while I was shopping in Mel's Foodliner, I discovered that they sale a hard water performance booster for preventing mineral build-up in all dishwashers and that removes cloudy film from glassware. It is called Finish Glass Magic and is produced by the same company that puts out Finish Dishwasher Detergent. This is merely a BOOSTER. You still need to use dishwasher detergent with every load of dishes.
According to the directions, you just need to place 4 (FOUR) tablespoons of the powder at the bottom of your dishwasher BEFORE you begin adding your HOT water. If you are like me and are having spot problems, they recommend that you place 8 (EIGHT) tablespoons of the powder at the bottom of the machine before you add the water. For best results, you should add the booster with every load of dishes. You can purchase a 16-ounce box of Glass Magic for just $4.33. I was very favorably impressed with the price.
So, I left the dishes that I had washed last night and looked BAD in the dishwasher and just followed the directions by using the 8 tablespoon method this time. I placed our Finish Dishwashing Powerball Tablet in the soap dispenser, turned the machine ON and left. After the machine washed, rinsed, dried and sanitized the dishes, I opened the door to take a look. The once mucky dishes had metamorphisized into an absolutely sparking load of dishes. Our brown dishes were just like new again!
So...if you're having any cleanliness or spotting problems, I suggest that you try this product!!!

about unidentifed flying objects in the Leoti area today, there is no need to be concerned about me. I have not and will not be wearing my moo moo or (cow cow as Stan calls it)out to the mailbox today! The winds are DREADFUL!!!
I must admit that I am shocked at noticing that there is actually a roofing crew on a house in Leoti this afternoon! Hope that they packed their parachutes!!!

Leta M. Akins--Scott City
Leta Akins was born on May 8th of 1939 in Goodland and passed away on March 28th at Scott County Hospital. She was 70-years-old. She was a Scott County resident since 1967. Mrs. Akins was a homemaker.
On October 17th of 1958, she married Donald Akins in Florence, Colorado. He died in 2004 in Colorado.
Survivors include two daughters; Wanita Lickteig of Scott City and Sonya Ullom-Willson of Kodac, Tennessee, 1 brother, Benny Hall of Scott City, 1 sister, Mabel Stoker of Canon City, Colorado., 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2:oo on Saturday, April 3rd, at the United Methodist Church in Scott City. Inurnment will be at the Scott County Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Leta Akins Memorial Fund or Scott County VIP Center in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home.

Ferne Cramer, 91, was born on November first 1918 in Healy and passed away on March 29th at Parklane Nursing Home in Scott City. A lifetime Healy resident, she had been a homemaker.
On October 9th of 1940, she married Fred Cramer in Dighton. He passed away on November 6th of 2009 in Scott City.
Survivors include 2 sons, Terry and Diana Cramer of Topeka, and Richard and Lana Cramer of Scott City. One daughter, Sandra and Windell Hambrick of Wichita, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Cords on the Leoti's Main Street and Broadway
For people who live in Leoti, I am sure that you are already aware of these lying on top of the streets. They've been there for a few days now. Though I do not know for sure about this, I am hoping that they have been placed there to see just how much traffic travels through our main blinking stop light every day. As far as I am concerned, I would love to see that the state decides that it is time to upgrade us from the blinking system to an out and out STOPLIGHT.
When the state determined several years ago, that there was no longer sufficient traffic at that point in town to warrant the normal everyday stoplight, I, like others, were glad that we would no longer have to sit in line for a minute or so to get to the other side. LOL! Since then, I don't know how many times I have come close to being in an accident there because people either breeze right through without even pausing or others who did not know when they have the right-of-way to proceed into the intersection. People who are walking through the intersection are oftimes very nervous about crossing the street there for fear that they may be struck by a vehicle.
Since we were downgraded, Seaboard Foods has come to Leoti. With their mill, came many trucks that go through that intersection on a daily basis. That extra traffic alone tells me that the blinker system should be a safer way to go. But, of course, Kansas State has not contacted me about my opinion on the matter. LOL!
If any of you out there know if this is the actual purpose for these cords, could you please post your comments here? If I learn anything else, I will update my blog on the matter.
