Just wanted to let you know about the 3-day weekend specials at Route 96 which is just east of Leoti.
Customers can order mountain oysters for $10.95 per person or ribeyes or baked fish for $14.96. Each is served with your choice of potato, salad bar and Texas toast.
On Saturday nights, they serve prime rib with choice of potato, salad bar and Texas toast for $18.95 each.
Sunday customers can order off of the breakfast menu in the evening.
Of course, you do not have to choose the specials. The menu is still available to all.
The cafe is open every day. The only evening that they are closed is Monday. For more information, call 375-2400. I THINK that these specials are served every weekend.

An idea
Many people don't have time or don't know where to start when it comes to choosing paint colors, furniture, flooring, window coverings, etc. So,those people end up being trapped in homes or offices that really don't make them or their family feel comfortable or happy in their own surroundings.

Birthday party assistance needed
Our daughter, Abigayle, will be celebrating her 8th birthday on Saturday, April 17th. (It is so hard to believe that she will be that old already!!!) We will, of course, be celebrating with her classmates on that Friday afternoon. Afterwards, a few of her girlfriends will be coming over for a very special slumber party!
For those of you who do not know Abigayle, she is a very prim and SOMETIMES, proper little girl who loves such things as dress-up, make-up, jewelry, etc. To honor all of those things, we are going to have a very grown up tea party complete with tea sandwiches. (When we told this to Abi, she immediately told us that she and her friends just LOVE bologna and cheese!!! Not exactly what we were thinking of! LOL!!!)
Before they enjoy the tea party, we are going to have all kinds of dress up clothes, make-up, hats, jewelry, etc on hand for them to change into. After everyone has blossomed into little ladies, they will be escorted into our dining room where they will be seated around our dining table complete with a lace tablecloth, real flowers, etc. Abigayle's sister, Leighlyn, and us will serve them on real china!
There is something that we will be needing some help with. Abigayle is a major lover of hats--the bigger, the better! Of course, hats with flowers are just the absolute BOMB!!! If you happen to know where we can find some hats for her and her friends, could you please let us know? We are also going to need some cheap jewelry for the girls to play with. If you happen to have some that you want to get rid of, please let us know.
Abigayle and her friends will be just so absolutely thrilled!!!

A gorgeous Easter
What a day!!! The weather could not have been any more perfect than it was today. Just a nice breeze and temperatures in the 70s.
We held our family's Easter get-together at our home. Guests included Grandma (Neva Kiefer-Duncan), Nonny (Donna Lou Elder), Leif, Lori and Lars Christensen, Rob, Lona Sue and Hunter Carson and the four of us. Unfortunately, our son and his wife, (Adam and Mel Blau) were unable to be with us as Mel had to work.
Stan was in charge of roasting pork from Seaboard Foods where he works. We had two Applewood Bacon Roasts and one Portebello Mushroom Roast. We also served a potato casserole that Stan created, homemade dinner rolls, angel food cake, mixed vegetables, deviled eggs, etc. Everyone else brought lots and LOTS of food! Late in the day, we had ice cream sundaes at my mom's request. They were DELICIOUS!!!
Lori started a brand new tradition in our family today--kite flying on Easter! Lori's best friend, Valerie Lobmeyer, has done this with her kids for years. Lori purchased four adorable kites for each of the kids. They flew them in the pasture to the north of us. This activity kept them and several adults busy for 2 or 3 hours. Meanwhile, everyone else enjoyed visiting and MUCH laughing at home.
We are so VERY fortunate to have such wonderful people whom we love so greatly to spend holidays together!!! So many people are left all alone for the special days.

It has just come to my attention that a Saint Bernard Dog in Leoti is in VERY desperate need of a new home!!! It's family is moving out of town and is not able to take it with them.

Storm damage
Late this morning, we were plagued with the beginning of high speed winds in our area. Trash, boxes, pop and beer cans, sacks, tumbleweeds, etc began flying all around town. At 11:51 p.m., the winds are finally beginning to slow down. Believe me, townspeople will have a major clean-up in yards tomorrow.
As we drove through town this afternoon, we saw many houses that were losing shingles. As you know, MANY local homes had to be re-roofed last summer after a thunderstorm with historic potency went through Wichita County. Some of those roofs have some repair that needs to be done again.
We drove by one house that had just received a new roof last fall. The homeowner and a friend were on top of the house and were having to nail shingles back down. Still, some shingles were laying in the yard.
Our neighbors had just tinned their shed last weekend. Today, the wind picked up one full sheet, probably 4' x 8', and repositioned it in the alley.
Trees were thrashed back and forth all afternoon and evening. Many large tree branches are now broken and are strewn in yards.
Fortunately, I have heard nothing about any broken windows from the wind storm!
Tomorrow is supposed to be breezy but not windy as it was today.
People like our daughters and I are having to deal with allergy and asthma problems tonight because of all of the dust in the air.
