Due to problems last weekend, the theatre was not able to open. So, this weekend, the 8th and the 9th, you can go to see the movie that was not shown last weekend, UNSTOPPABLE, starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. You'll find it's synopsis earlier in my blog.
January 7th and 8th: UNSTOPPABLE at 7:30 CST
January 12th: UNSTOPPABLE at 11:00 a.m., CST All tickets $4.00 each.
January 14th and 15th: TANGLED at 7:30 CST
January 22nd and 23rd: NARNIA:VOYAGE at 7:30 CST
All evening movies are shown at 7:30 CST during this time of the year. Movies will start an hour later in late Spring. You can't beat the ticket prices at the Star!!! Everyone 12 and under pay $4.00 each. Everyone else pays $5.00 each. Refreshments are also very fairly priced!!!

Tough Realization
I spent this morning compiling the Scott County Courthouse information that I send to the credit bureau that I have worked for for the past several years. After I had concluded my work, I dropped by the filling station to buy gasoline. Unfortunately, I had left my billfold at home so I was left with a bit over $4.00 worth of change in my coin person. (Thank goodness I had that!!!) I wanted to make sure that I did not go over my $4.00 worth. It was quite sobering as I realized that it practically just took one second to pump that $4.00 worth into my van. Shoot! So many of us used to take a car with an empty gas tank to the station and fill it completely full on LESS than $4.00!!!
I don't know what we are going to do if gas prices continue to go higher and higher...
I recently spoke to a couple who lives in Scott City but works in Wichita County. Because of the fuel costs, they are seriously considering leaving their family and friends in Scott County and moving to Leoti. Can't say that I blame them a bit. And, honestly, we'd love to have them here!!!

New Humidifier For Sale (SOLD)
We all know that this time of the year is tough on us with our air being so dog gone dry. Well, I just got a request to post this for Eldon and Phyllis Glanville of Leoti. They have a new humidifer for sale that was just used for a few days. There is nothing wrong with it. They just prefer a different kind. If you are interested in it, please call. Opal Mae Gross--Lakin
(January 14, 1908 - January 2, 2011)
Opal Mae Gross, age 102, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. She was born January 14, 1908 in Eldon, Missouri the daughter of William S. and Florence A. Eads Schwabedissen. On December 25, 1946 she moved to Garden City from Parsons, Kansas. In 1949 she moved to Stockton, Missouri and lived there for 18 years before moving back to Garden City in 1967. She was a homemaker and worked as a finisher for dry cleaners in Parsons from 1928-1938.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was involved with her Sunday school class, the Godmothers and the Fairbairn Circle. She also belonged to the Finney County Farm Bureau all of Garden City, Kansas.
On December 29, 1929 she married Frank Waits. He died February 1, 1967 in Springfield, Missouri. Then on June 7, 1969 she married Ralph Gross. He died April 25, 1999 in Garden City, Kansas. Survivors Include: Two Grandsons, Mark Hays of Garden City, Kansas and Stephen Kelly (& Debbie) Hays of Garden City, Kansas; Three Great-Grandchildren, Jaime Bradford of Garden City, Kansas, Caitlin Hays of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Bryan (& Carrie) Hays of Shawnee, Kansas and One Great-Great-Granddaughter, Carlye Hays of Shawnee, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her Daughter, Mary Lou Hays, One Sister, Clara Moss and One Brother, Billy Schwabedissen.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Kansas with the Rev. David Bell presiding.
Interment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Friends may call from 10:00am-8:00pm Tuesday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.
The family requests memorials be given to the FUMC God Mothers in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.

Update on Water Emergency
First off, I just received word a few minutes ago that there were two other City employees who worked all weekend on both clearing streets AND working on the water leak problem. I apologize. I just assumed that the regular City employees worked on these things. I was totally wrong!!! The trash picker-uppers, Robert Meyers and Chris, also worked throughout the whole weekend. Thank you to you, Fellas, also!!! We appreciate your work!!!!!
Now, work is continuing on the leak issue. I was just told that another crew has been called in to help locate the leaks, etc.
As far as the commenter who did not find this issue to be an emergency, I would also like for you to know that there was a large pond of water that basically became an ice-skating rink just south of Hwy 96 a block. Hmmm...given the fact that we already have a water shortage, that definitely sounds like an emergency to me. PLUS I talked to someone awhile ago whose water had to be turned off for awhile until repairs were made.
I just want to thank all of our City employees who have worked practically non-stop since Thursday night at 3:00 a.m. when they began working on the streets. Right now, all of these people are still busily repairing problem leaks PLUS do their regular jobs. VLE-B
