Bertha May Dague - Leoti
(August 2, 1914 - January 4, 2011)
Bertha May Dague, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Wichita County Long Term Care in Leoti, Kansas. Bertha was born August 2, 1914 at Ness City, Kansas, the daughter of John Jacob & Luvina Gertrude Whithorn Beach. A lifetime resident of western Kansas, she was a farm wife.
Bertha was a member of the First Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas
On February 1, 1933 she married Albert L. Dague at Scott City, Kansas. He passed away on February 15, 2000 at Leoti, Kansas.
Bertha’s surviving family members include - Three Grandsons- Arlen Wing- Elk City, Oklahoma Larry Wing- Leoti, Kansas Loren Wing- Hays, Kansas One sister- Josephine Jones- Scott City, Kansas Three Great grandchildren A daughter, Eva Wing and a brother Dale Beach preceded her in death
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the First Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas with Steve Payne officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.
Friends may call from noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and from 10:00 a.m through 8:00 p.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to Wichita County Long Term Care in care of the funeral home.

Three-in-One
Yesterday I sent out two email to relatives of the Gwins and Glanville who made up this popular Christian group from Wichita County. Today, I have heard that you can still purchase their music. I am waiting on the websits information. Once I have it, I will post in on my blog.

Gift Card Information
A good friend of mine gave me a sad account of what happened to her son's gift card that he had received for Christmas. He was given the gift card and everything appeared to be just fine. Last Saturday, he took the two cards that he had received to a store in Garden City. The first card was accepted very easily. The second was not. Come to find out, the clerk who had sold the card had not activated it at the time of purchase. So, what he was left with was a worthless card.
It is VERY important that the clerk whom sells you the card MUST activate it BEFORE you leave the cash register. If it is not activated, the card is null and void.
If you have ever purchased gift cards such as VISA, you have probably seen that the card is worthless until you pay for it and it's authorization which is usually $4-5.00 per card. When you purchase a gift card from the company that it is to be used such as a Wal-Mart or Target card or Dollar General card, you do NOT pay the extra money for activation.
In this case, the person who purchased the card also had the receipt that proved that he had purchased it but that cannot be used in a case such as this because though the consumer purchased one card, there is no proof that he didn't steal other gift cards at the same time. The money that he had spent on the card was basically just tossed away as far as he was concerned. Of course, the business benefited!
Bottom line. Make sure that your gift cards are activated B-E-F-O-R-E you leave the checkout stand. If you are the recipient of a gift card, you might want to take it to the store where you plan on spending it and have them make sure that the card is good. It might save you some embarrassment in the long run...

Wichita County Basketball Homecoming
I was a bit vague about the homecoming on this coming Friday. I have more information for you now.
The crowning of the king and queen will be held between the varsity girls and boys game. The girls game begins at 6:30 CST. At this time, I cannot give you the names of the king and queen candidates. I should know their names later this week. Once I have that information, I will post it here.

Off to Afghanistan
My dear, Chris Campbell-Knowles, left last night on her trek to war-torn Afghanistan. Though I was not exactly joyous at her decision to go there, I am extremely proud of her for doing so!!! She and her love, Peter, are sponsors of a battalion of soldiers from Camp Pendleton, California who are currently fighting in Afghanistan. Because of that, she finds it necessary to show her support to the men and women who are giving their all in this dreadful war. Of course, she will not be allowed on the front lines but she will definitely be close enough as far as I am concerned... Chris plans on being there for a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I ask you to remember her in your daily prayers...
Chris is the daughter of the late Joann Dierks-Campbell.

Happy to Help
I received an email today from a gentleman who happens to have a picture of an ancestor of a family in Wichita County. He does not know how to get into contact with the family so he contacted me to see if I could get his information to them. I was only too happy to oblige him!!!
Yesterday, a great friend of mine read my blog and discovered that former residents of Wichita County whom she was close to, had moved back into the area. Fortunately, I was able to get their contact information to one another.
Hopefully, my blog is worth something after all! LOL!!!
