For any of you who might be interested in cheering the 6th grade Community basketball girls team to victories, I am posting the schedule.
Saturday, January 30th, Cimarron and Holcomb girls will be playing at the Wichita County High School in Leoti at 1:00 and again at 3:00.
There will POSSIBLY be a game at Montezuma on Saturday, February 6th, but at this time it is doubtful. If games are scheduled later, I will post that information at that time.
Saturday, February 13th, the girls will play against Johnson girls at Johnson at noon.
The end of the season's tournament will be held in Johnson on Saturday, February 27th. Times will be available later on.

6th Grade Community Basketball game in Sublette
Unfortunately, Leoti girls had to drive a considerable amount of miles to get their rear ends beat. It was a great learning experience though. I believe that the bulk of the reasoning behind the 22-1 point game was that Sublette had almost 4 times as many players as Leoti did. Our girls were worn out. There are only 6 girls on our team. Aaron Matteson is a fine coach. I am sure that our girls will be making many more points in the future games.
The 6th grade team consists of Regan Matteson, Gladys Martinez, Lizeth Mancillas, Hannah Martin, Shyla Mason and Leighlyn Blau.

In our time of need (needing a dog or puppy) you really came through for us! Several people offered us their own pets or advised us of other animals who were looking for homes. It was difficult to decide which one to take. Our friend, Karla S., called us while we were still in Garden City to tell us more about a Chihuahua there. She arranged a meeting for all of us.
It turns out that the little gal was born in Leoti and later moved to Holcomb. The meeting went very well. We loved her and she liked us! We have just introduced her to the rest of her new family.
Thank you sooo much, Karla, for enabling us to get together!!!

Margit Dizmang's Update
Just heard that Margit's hip surgery is over and that she has been transferred to the Wichita County Health Center. At this time, she is in Isolation but she can still take your phone calls and cards. Her telephone number is 620-375-2233.

Dennis and Susan Elder
Its been a considerable amount of time since we last heard from Dennis and Susan. That all changed today when they sent us an email. Here is the just of that email:
Dennis and Susan are doing well! They continue to miss everyone in our neck of the woods and are looking forward to returning home!
Dennis' 3-month CT Scan provided very good results. Thank the Lord!!! He still experiences tough days but is getting stronger in many ways. He is looking very good and is trying to get out more. He comes back worn out but he is gaining his health and strength back. On nice days, he is back to fishing. Dennis and Susan are sure that 2010 will be a good year!!!
Since October, Susan's family has had their own fair share of problems. Her stapfather has more cancer, her sister has cancer. Her father fell and broke his hip that just added to his health problems that he has had for many years. Susan is disappointed that because of Dennis' issues, she has not been able to go to her family and help them. Now that Dennis is doing so much better, she is planning on going to visit her Dad in Tulsa at the end of this month. At this time, both of her fathers are in hospitals. We need to keep her family in our prayers also.
They hope to be coming home sometime in Mid-February through March! His 6-month CT Scan is scheduled for March. They will be seeing his doctors in February to discuss various issues.
Susan also asks that we share kindness with someone who may need it. (Great advice, Susan!)
Please continue to send up those prayers! They definiely work!!! Just ask Dennis and Susan!!!

Ryan Donald Haxton--Scott City
Ryan Donald Haxton was born on December 28th, 1983 in Kinsley and passed away on January 12th, 2010 at his Kinsley home. He was 26.
Ryan attended Kinsley schools through the fifth grade. He attended 6th grade in Scott City. He then transferred to The Kansas State School For the Blind in Kansas City for the next five years. He returned to Scott City and graduated from there in 2002.
Ryan grew up in the newspaper business including The Kinsley Mercury and later became the district manager for The Scott County Record. He was also the owner-operator of the Ry-Dogg Entertainment DJ Service for eleven years.
His parents are Rox Haxton and Kathy Jasnoch of Scott City and Tim and Marsha Bagby. Local grandparents are Don and Boots Haxton of Scott City. He is also survived by one stepbrother and 2 stepsisters. His, brother, Tyler, preceded him in death.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 on Friday, January 15th, at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned, Ks. Buriel will be held at Wayne Cemetery in Lewis.

Outstanding people amongst us
I have told you before that I HATE tabloids and refuse to buy them no matter how "enticing" their headlines may read. If more people would leave them on the racks, eventually the publication companies would run out of money to print them. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time soon. Too many, pardon my word, IDIOTS out there actually put stock in them as being factual. Get a grip, folks, those publications are sick fairy tales to capture customers' attention and cash!!!
I'm not going to go into detail about the horrible plight of the Haitian people right now. Plenty of news people are detailing it all over TV, Radio, newspapers, etc. Just a few minutes ago, I had to make a trip to the school to drop off Abigayle's water bottle and her reading journal. Par for us, our radio was turned on in the van. A dee jay told all listening that Brad Pitts and his significant other, Angelina Jolie, have donated ONE MILLION DOLLARS to Doctors Without Borders to aide in the recovery and medical treatment of the survivors there. Lance Armstrong, the famous bicyclist, has donated 1/4 of a million dollars ($250,000) to the people there. We're not talking small potatoes here, folks. BIG dollars have been shared to help the very many people in desperate need right now.
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sick of reading the headlines of the tabloids about these people and others! So, you tell me, DON'T READ THEM THEN. That's hard to avoid doing since everytime I stand in a check-out line at a grocery store, WALMART, etc, they're slapping me in the face!!!
I cannot vouch for the characters of Mr. Armstrong and most of the tabloid victims, but I do have a very good friend who is a PERSONAL FRIEND of Brad and Angelina! She has told me that the garbage in these tabloids about them is just that, GARBAGE. There is no truth to it. They are very nice, kind and people who are truly in love with one another. This million dollars is not their first charitable contribution to mankind. Quite the contrary. Every year, they not only send HUGE amounts of money overseas and here at home to such organizations as Save the Children, they send themselves as well. That's right, guys! They actually go to very poor and hurt countries and actually WORK with their very own hands to better someone else's life. They're not afraid to get their very own hands dirty.
So the next time that you are tempted to reach your hand out to grab one of those disgusting "rags" in the newstand, raise your other hand and slap it for doing it! LOL!
Yeah, you know, that's just another of my many opinions, like it or not!
