Ellen Drake was born on June 2nd, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York and passed away on Monday, November 16th, 2009 at Scott County Hospital. She was 74.
In 1941, she moved to Scott County with her family where she graduated from SCHS in 1953. After that, she received her Bachelors Degree in Cultural Anthropology in 1957. Ms. Drake received her Masters of Science Degree in Wildlife from Utah State University in 1969. Ms. Drake traveled the world for many years and lived in India, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya and Botswana. She returned to Scott City from Botswana, Africa in 2006.
She is described as a free spirit, biologist, artist, freelance journalist, researcher and photograper. She was a research assistant for Jane Goodall's work with chimpanzees in Tazania and as a journalist for the Ethiopian Tourist Organization. Ms. Drake aslo authored two published books, CATS IN THE COSMOS and A BOOK OF BAOBABS.
She is survived by one nephew, Jeffry Drake of Fairbanks, Alaska, two nieces, Susan Duff of Scott City and Lysa Vattimo of Aloha, Oregon and several great nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will in the Scott County Cemetery.
