Old Settlers Event in Ness City

In case you are interested in finding something to keep you occupied this weekend, you may be interested in heading to Ness City in Southwest Kansas. Thousands of people are expected to make the trip there to take in the 2010 Ness County Old Settlers Event. People have been putting this together for the past 2 years. The event will include historical presentations, entertainment, a large parade and class reunions.

The event that takes place every 5 years will celebrate it's 126th anniversary this weekend.

The kick-off parade took place this morning at 10:00. It was expected that 180 entries would be viewed. After the parade, the county's old settlers and century farms were recognized.

Musical entertainment will be produced at 7:00 every evening.

Friday events will include the arrival of the Pony Express and a Black Powder Shoot south of Ness City at the old gun club.

Miss Rodeo Kansas, Danielle Dinges, will give a presentation on Friday.

In addition to music, Friday night will be highlighted by a bank robbery gun fight.

A motorcycle poker run will begin at 9:00 in Bazine, a German immigrant presentation in Ness City at 9:30, a horse-shoeing presentation at 1:30 p.m. and a demolition derby at 6:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds.

Ness County residents are putting together a vintage baseball team that will play at 10:30 a.m. at the Ness City Park on Saturday morning. They will be playing against a Jetmore team. Both teams will play with the old baseball rules and dress in the old uniforms.

A carnival will be on Wednesday,Thursday, Friday and Saturday in downtown Ness City. Part of the proceeds will go to the Old Settlers Organization.
