Our son, Adam, and daughters, Leighlyn and Abigayle, have all inherited my love for animals--especially dogs and cats. There is very little that we wouldn't do for them.
Last night, Adam and his wife, Mel, watched as their dog delivered a litter of 8 puppies. One of the 8 puppies was born dead. All others seemingly appeared to be fine until they picked up one little fella. As soon as they looked at his face, they were shocked to discover that this itty bitty little guy was born with his eyes WIDE OPEN!!! A little while later, he appeared to have had a seizure of some sort. Of course, this really upset Adam and Mel.
This morning, Adam sadly took the little babe to their trusted vet in Scott City. Adam went there with the intentions of having the doctor put him out of his short life's misery. Instead, the doctor listened to the little puppy's heart, etc. He was surprised to see that EVERYTHING appeared to be great! His heart and lungs, etc sounded good and strong! The doctor was also quite impressed that he had been born with his eyes open. He had only heard of that happening a few times but had never dealt with it personally.
The vet recommended that Adam return the puppy to its mother. Blindness is a definite possibility but he may have just as good vision as anyone else. Time will tell.
Adam and Mel were reluctant to keep the puppy alive. I asked him why. They are concerned about the puppy having seizures again when no one is around to help. I reminded Adam that I have seizures on a way-too-often basis. Most of the time, I am completely alone when they occur. I manage to handle them well with or without people around. I see no reason to think otherwise about this little guy.
Adam said that as of late this afternoon, the little boy was doing extremely well. He is first in line to eat and no one pushes him away from those little dinner plates.
As time goes by, I'll update you on his progress. So far, all looks fine! By the way, they still have a 2-month-old puppy who needs a loving home plus all of these little dollies will need forever homes soon. Let me know if you are in the market to add on to your family! They are small-to-midsize dogs.
