Lori--Tuesday Night

Today has been a whirlwind day for all of us. With it, came much more information to digest.

First of all, we learned today that the two abseces that Lori has are the same size as softballs. Each one is that size. Since the heavy doses of antibiotic has begun, one's size has shrunk considerably. The other one has minimized but not that much yet. Earlier, I had reported to you that surgery would be done to drain the one abcess. The doctor in charge of her care called a radiologist in Topeka today who normally does these procedures. The Topeka doctor has recommended that Lori continue taking the large IV doses of antibiotics for another 2-3 weeks to see just how well that will do. At that time, a repeat CT Scan will be done to see how things are doing. If at that time, the doctors are not pleased with the progress, she will be sent to Topeka for the surgery after all.

One doctor had suggested that she go home and let a home health agency come in and continue maintaining the IV treatment for both antibiotics and pain control. The surgeon believes that we are nowhere near being able to do that yet. Bottom line is that Lori will remain in the Hays hospital for at least one more week. At that time, more decisions will be made.

Lori's pain remains to be out-of-control. She was able to get out of bed for a considerable amount of time this morning which we thought was a great sign. Unfortunately, when we put her back into bed, she was overcome with weakness.

Lori will not be allowed to eat anything for another week. Last night, she began getting to chew on ice chips again. She LOVED that!!! LOL!!!

Our friend, Tammi Buhrle, who was a school teacher in Leoti until a year ago, came over from her new home in Russell to visit. It was wonderful for all of us to get to spend some time with her!

Some of you have wanted to know how you can call Lori. She is in a special bed that is a long distance from the telephone. Instead of calling her on that, please call her on her cell phone which is 620-874-0715. She would love to hear from you! Just remember that Lori is very sick and will not be able to have any lengthy conversations with anyone.

It is possible that Mama may decide to spend the night tomorrow night also. As for Stan, the three kids and me, we are planning on returning home tomorrow. We hate to leave her but staying in motel rooms and paying for restaurant food is not cheap for this many people.

Your prayers are GREATLY appreciated!!!

VLE-B

  1. It was sooo good seeing you all. I'll come over again and again for as long as she's in Hays. The love your family has for each other is outstanding!
