Several years ago, several beautiful benches, decorative but very useful street lights, bricked plant boxes and various kinds of trees were erected and planted along the business district of Leoti. As far as I was concerned, I was quite impressed and happy to see them there. But, of course, since we all have our own opinions on everything, there were others who saw no need in any of them.
But, I just wanted to post this here so that the peoples who are responsible for doing this for our community, know that I like them!!! Before, our city's center, had very little to no pizazz for people driving through town. Now, these items have really "dressed up" Leoti.
Recently, I have noticed several people utilizing these benches. Those people were from all age groups. All seemed to really enjoy the benches.
I really got a kick out of what I saw on Friday evening! It was approximately 6:00. Three VERY long and wide loads of propellers for wind farms arrived in Leoti at the same time. Each parked along Main Street south of the blinking stop light along with multiple pilot cars for several minutes. Some of these drivers walked to K-Store to purchase refreshments and probably to use the rest room facilities. At least two of the pilot cars refueled their vehicles at K-Store. Once they returned to their vehicles, a good number of these drivers walked around their vehicles and checked their tires, etc. Eventually, everyone returned to their vehicles and proceeded down the road.
They each drove to the blinking light and, one by one, turned west on Highway 96. The first two long loads managed to get through the intersection very well. But, the third driver had more difficulty than the others. His load became "stuck" there for a few minutes. For awhile, it looked like someone needed to take a jar of Vaseline to him so that he could grease up the machinary and get it on down the road. LOL!!! Within a few minutes and with NO petroleum jelly, the load was once again on the move.
I know all of this because I watched the whole thing! And I was not alone. I was sitting in our van with my mom, sister, nephew and daughters. I had parked our van in front of one of the stores so that we could watch. Across the street from us, a man had parked his pick-up. He got out of it and leaned against the back of the vehicle and watched these vehicles go through town. Other people were sitting on one of the benches so that they, too, could take in Leoti's excitement.
My family and I really enjoyed this entertainment. From how the man and the people looked who were sitting on the bench, it looks like they were also getting a kick out of it!
More and more, it is becoming the norm to see these very large loads going through town. On Thursday of last week, we saw two loads parked on the side of Main Street so that their drivers could pull over and get some rest. They were from Sascatchewan, Canada and were hauling two very large pieces of mining equipment to Canada, I presume. (Sorry, Folks, if I butchered the spelling of that location!!!) Again, quite a few Leotians parked along the road to spectate.
I, for one, think that it is really kool to see these activities in town. But on the other hand, does that mean that Leoti might be just a tad bit boring??? LOL!!!
