It has just come to my attention that a life-threatening strain of Staph Infection has been diagnosed in the Scott and Wichita County communities. I do not want to cause any frenzies here but I do recommend that you read the following information or go online to learn more. If you think that you may have it, GO TO YOUR DOCTOR!!!
MRSA, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Infection is caused by a strain of staph bacteria that has become resistant to the antibiotics commonly used to treat ordinary staph infections.
I have learned that MERSA is VERY easily passed from person to person but epidemics of it do not normally happen. It seems to appear more often in, for lack of a better word, dirty people and dirty homes. HOWEVER, clean people who live in clean homes can also contract it. So, if you live in a not-so-clean home, you may want to do something about that NOW. Your chances of becoming seriously ill with this is greater than it is for other people. Discarding any trash and junk from your home is a GREAT place to start. Purchasing and USING cleaning and laundry supplies that consist of anti-bacterial chemicals and/or chlorine bleach should be used in your home and laundry.
Just sitting on a seat where an infected person sat several hours earlier, can cause you to become ill with MRSA. Children and older adults are more prone to dying from this infection.
Here are some very simple things that we can all do to lessen our chances of becoming ill with this very serious illness:
***Wash your hands. SCRUB THEM BRISKLY FOR AT LEAST 15 SECONDS WITH SOAP, then dry them with a fresh, DISPOSABLE towel. After that, take another fresh, DISPOSABLE towel and turn off the faucet with it. Carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you at ALL times for when you do not have access to water and soap. All too often, when I am in public restrooms, I see people just run their hands through water--no soap--after they have urinated or had a bowel movement. Some people skip the water activity also!!! DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***Keep personal items personal. Towels, sheets, razors, clothing, athletic equipment can transmit MRSA very easily and quickly through direct contact.
***If you are an athlete, shower WITH soap immediately after any games or practices. Wash your athletic and gym clothes as soon as you get home.
***Sanitize your towels and bed linens in a washing machine set at the "HOT" water setting with added chlorine bleach, if possible. Dry the laundry in a HOT dryer.
***Get tested by your doctor if you think that there is a chance that you might possibly have this.
***Use antibiotics EXACTLY as they were prescribed to you.
***Keep any cuts or wounds covered at all times.

It is not easy to fight against MRSA infection. For each particular case must determine the best mixture of two or more antibiotics, and then hope for the best. The more information we share is greater likelihood that the research progress faster. Greetings!

Donald, thank you so VERY much for your information!!! I will be posting it as well. Again, thank you!!! VLE-B
ReplyDeleteMRSA is easy to get however it is NOT as easy as sitting in a chair as stated above! I happen to know many high fallutin people in our community that DO have MRSA & if that was the case our schools, churches, grocerey stores etc would have it! if a person has them covered & not oozing all over things then you won't get it! Yes watch out for signs it is NOT a nice disease but many RICH & VERY CLEAN people get it just my opinion~
ReplyDeleteI NEVER meant to insult anyone. I mentioned that EVERYONE is at risk for MERSA BUT according to what I read, the people who have the greater chance of contracting it, are the people who do not cleanse themselves or their homes well enough. THE BACTERIA ACCUMULATES WHEREVER IT WAS FIRST DEPOSITED. IN OTHER WORDS, IT CONTINUOUSLY GROWS. In the research that I have done, you are likely to pick it up out of chairs and other pieces of furniture. Door handles or on the areas of doors that do not require handles to open or shut them, contain all kinds of bacteria from the infected person touching it. Of course, this is NOT just MERSA that is passed on like this. Influensa and many other infections, viruses keep right on moving from person to person like this. Handling your very own as well as public telephones and cellphones pass germs along to anyone and possibly everyone, who touch them. That is why I clean any phones that I have a vested interest in with disinfectants, etc. It is never a bad thing to be "overly clean".
ReplyDeletePlease understand that I NEVER meant nor do I believe or did I ever try to tell people that only the poor and dirty have anything to worry about. VLE-B
