Additional House Information
Earlier, I forgot to mention that the house for sale that I mentioned earlier also has these to offer:
Utility room with a nice amount of cabinets for storage and plenty of room for a washing machine, dryer and upright freezer. It has an exterior door to use if you want to dry your clothes on the line in the backyard.
It comes with a built-in microwave oven and a 2-year-old dishwasher. New buyer will need to furnish his/her own refrigerator, cookstove, washing machine and dryer if wanted.
There are french doors that enable people to go from the dining room to the backyard.
This property has low property taxes.
There is a brick patio with a pond next to it.
A school bus stop is located in the parking area. If the buyers do not want it, I am sure that the school MIGHT be willing to move it to another location. Buyers with children might really appreciate the bus picking up and returning their children to their home at no cost.
The post office delivers mail to the key-locked mailbox next to the parking area at no cost.
Again, we are showing this house. If you are interested, please email us at
slblaus@gmail.com
or call me at 620.375.8033 to set up an appointment.

Hungry???
Great news!!! Ryan and Cookie (Dawson) Altman, long-time residents of Leoti, just opened their BBQ, etc eatery this morning at 11:00! Many of us have been looking forward to this for the past few months. It is located just behind Ken Breitkreutz' carpentry shop on Main Street. For those of you who are not familiar with Leoti, it is located exactly one block straight north of the post office.
I spoke with Cookie and Ryan today and wanted to pass their information on to you. The business will be OPEN on Sundays, at least for now. They will take 2 days off back to back each week. At this time, those days are unknown. As far as closing time, they hope to be open until 7:00 or 8:00 p.m., CST. For the time being, it is going to take awhile to decide just how much meat they're going to need each day. If they run out over the next little bit, they will close down then. As far as I am concerned, this is quite understandable.
If you want to order food for sometime today, tomorrow, or next week, etc, just let Ryan or Cookie know. They'll do their best to oblige you!

It was just a matter of time...
Anyone who lives around here has probably gotten accustomed to my every day attire. I spend much of my time doing "dirty" things. Because of that, I seldom wear my good clothes. On an ordinary day, it is normal to find me wearing what I refer to as my "painting clothes". These are clothes that usually have lots and lots of different colors of paint all over them. For years, it has diven my husband and mother plumb silly. They've always said that some day I was going to forget what I was weaing and I would wear it somewhere I didn't want to be seen in it.
Well, that some day arrived yesterday. I had dressed in more "paint clothes" that morning so that I could work in our gardens. So I worked for the next few hours outside. Then we went to the Dairy King for some lunch. While we were there, a man mentioned to me that he was on his way to the Washington-Ames House for the afternoon tour. Of course, our whole family did not want to miss that! As soon as we finished eating, we drove directly to the W-A House. We went through the house. Afterwards, we came back home. It was when I happened to look down at my shorts when we were exiting our van when I got a good glimpse of my shorts. OH, MY GOODNESS!!! They were red with M-A-N-Y paint splatters all over them!!! My shirt was not that bad.
As we went through the house, I am sure that people wondered what in the world was wrong with me!
If you were one who saw me there, please accept my apologies. I think I've learned my lesson now.

Washington-Ames House
WOW!!! What can I say? Over the past year or so, the girls and I have thoroughly enjoyed our visits to this antique house in Leoti. Each time that we were there, we marveled at the additional improvements made since the last time we had been there. This weekend was when the public was invited in to take a look around. Tours were held on Friday and Satuday. A great number of people took advantage of this opportunity.
When we took our tour, we had some amazing tour guides. Karen Walk whose unbelievable vision and her decorating know-how have totally been instrumental in bringing this house back to life. Her gifts are unbelievable. I am shocked at all that she can do. In addition to the many hours she spent at night figuring out what all she wanted to do there (instead of sleeping), she spent even more time designing and creating superb window coverings as would've been common in the upper society's homes at the time that this house would have been built. She also went from one website to the next shopping for just the perfect wallpaper and border that would set the rooms off in style. Karen wanted to add some original stained art glasswork to the house. Though she had never done this particular form of art, she tackled it with her all and created beautiful pieces for the house.
In addition to Karen, the other ladies who were so knowledgeable about the house and that time period were Virginia Knobbe, Berniece Crouch, Jeanene French and Nicole Huber, Karen's granddaughter. Each of these ladies added so very much to our tour and history lesson. The tour would not have been the same without these people. Many people from the Washington, Ames families and citizens, past and present, from Wichita County have either donated or loaned various furniture pieces, artwork, etc to the Wichita County Historical Society to be used in this beautiful house. I learned also that not long ago, Karen was in attendance at an auction in Great Bend, Ks. An antique picture frame caught her eye. She decided to bid on it so that she could place it in the W-A House. She made the purchase and bought it back to town. Inside the frame was an old black and white picture of a man with a very long and bushy beard. When Karen began some research on the man, she discovered that the man was a descendant of a family whom was very instrumental in the founding of Wichita County, Ks. Call me crazy but I feel like some divine intervention was involved in Karen finding this and bringing it back here where, in my opinion, it belongs.
In case you have not heard, for the past couple of weeks, volunteers began scraping loose paint from the house in preparation for new paint. Late last week, the coat of primer and the base coat of paint was put into place. I would classify the base coat to be a medium rosy beige. Soon, six more colors will find their ways to the exterior. Before long, this once faded house will regain its glory as a gorgeous painted lady.
Painting of the exterior is not the last of the work to be done. The total renovation of the kitchen, which will be called Lorna's kitchen, in honor of Mr.and Mrs.Ames' daughter whom we just lost, the maid's quarters and a summer kitchen are next on the agenda.
Probably my two favorite rooms are the dining room and the master bedroom. I always thought that they were special and beautiful when they were empty. But now, since Berniece Crouch donated the antique dining room table, chairs, buffet and china closet that her late husband, Lloyd, had given to her, has given it to the house, the dining room has a much more elegant flavor.
Upstairs in the bedroom, family members of Jeanene French have donated their heirloom bedroom furniture to the house. These pieces and some smaller items that others have given, have really brought this room back to life.
If you have not already been through this beautiful place of history, don't forget to add it to your bucket list. You'll be happy that you did...
For those of us out there who believe that spirits are amongst us, you might appreciate this bit of information. Since the work has begun at the Washington-Ames House, a few mirrors have mysteriously been broken. No one was anywhere around them at the time. Maybe the generations of children who considered this house to be haunted, just might have known what they were talking about...
Thank you to the children of Mr. and Mrs. Ames who donated this house to the Wichita County Historical Society and to the many volunteers who have worked so diligently on this wonderful project!

I Forgot to Mention
that the movies shown last summer for Saturday Cinema were seen on the south side of the City Hall Building. Thanks to wonderful contributions and grants to keep free movie night continuing, a brand new projection screen and sound system have been purchased!!! YAY!!! People whom were present when City employees checked it out this week, have told me that the new system is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!!! It'll be just like going to a drive-in movie without having to sit in your cars.
So if you want to check it out, don't forget to bring your lawnchair, a jacket, and a blanket or two. Bring your dinner with you, too. Tonight, Leoti's GAP organization will be selling concessions at the movie.

Weekend Weather
June Juant is off and running as of TODAY! Just thought that you might be interested in the weather forecast for these three days.
Today: Highs in the lower 80s (YAY!!!) Light winds
Tonight: Lows in the lower 50s. Light winds will continue.
Note: It is 8:15 and the winds appear to be fairly strong right now. I guess we'll see what happens...
Saturday: Highs in the upper 80s. 10 mph winds
Night: Lows in the lower 60s. 20% chance of thunderstorms in the evening.
Sunday: Highs in the mid 90s. Mostly sunny with a 30% chance of thunderstorms.
Night: 20% chance of thunderstorms.
As of right now, it looks like we're going to have a grand weekend for outdoor activities. If you are planning on taking in the movies-in-the-park in Leoti, Scott City and Tribune, I'd recommend that you bring jackets and blankets for when temperatures cool off. Since there is a possibility of thunderstorms on Saturday, remember that Tribune will show their movie at the theatre if need be. In the park, the original SHREK movie will be shown. If weather forces the movie to be shown in the theatre, the pirate movie will be shown. Its synopsis, etc is posted in my blog.
So come on out and have a great time this weekend!!! It'll be a good time to catch up with old friends and a wonderful time to meet some new friends!
