I've gotten up and I can't get down!!!

Several years ago, a commercial came out advertising an alert system that people could purchase for themselves or their loved ones in case they fell, became ill, etc so that responders could get to them sooner than later. Since then, over and over again, we have heard those now famous words, "I've fallen and I can't get up" across the television screen, on the radio air waves and from the mouths of jokesters.

Well, yesterday, I was concerned that I would need to call 9-1-1 and ask for help for my husband, Stan, because he was up and could not get down. Yepper's that is right! Pretty scary at the time... Wanna hear what had happened??? It is okay for all audiences to read this, by the way!

A few months ago, I went out and bought 3 buntings to hang above our front door. In case you do not already know what a bunting is, it is a semi-circular American flag. These have been quite popular for many years in the Southern U.S. but are making their migration to the North little by little and lot by lot. Personally, I LOVE them and being an American who is STILL proud of her country and her people, I wanted to put them out at home. (I also wanted various people who have moved to the United States in search of a better life, to assimilate with the Americans--not to try to force their country on us. F.E., it really erks me to hear their music being blasted around our neighborhoods, seeing their former country's flags hanging in their U.S. yards, etc.) Originally, I wanted Stan to help me hang them up before the 4th of July. When that didn't happen, I wanted it hung up before the Wichita County fair. When that failed to take place, I wanted them up before 9-11. Well...we finally got it accomplished on 9-12. They're up well in advance of July 4th of 2012! LOl!!!

So, Stan gathered up our step stool, not ladder, that would not be necessary. (Yeah, right!) He also picked up his electric drill, extension cord, screws and washers. I provided the buntings. We moved out onto the front porch. Stan set up our handy dandy step ladder and plugged in the drill to electricity. He climbed up to the top step of the stool and S--T--R--E--T--C--H--E--D to get the first bunting attached to our trim. When he climbed down, I suggested that we round up the ladder. No, it still was not a neccessity. Hmm... He then moved the step stool a little closer to the other side of the porch so that he could raise the second bunting. When it was proven that the step stool had not "grown "in height since he stepped off of it a couple of minutes earlier, he decided to stand on our wooden handrail instead. I asked him if that was a good idea to which he replied "Well, of course it is! Why wouldn't it be???" Okay. I hushed up and let him go about the business at hand. When the second bunting was securely fastened into place, Stan tried to "dismount" the handrail. Hmmm...that wasn't working too terribly well for him. He and I tried this... Then we tried that... He finally told me that he was up and could not get down. I told him that if he didn't figure out something SOON, we'd have no other choice but to call for help. FINALLY, he was able to return to Earth again--uninjured, I might add. Thank the Good Lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As I told you before, there were three buntings that needed to be hung. Third time around... Stan elected to go out back and retrieve the step LADDER first! LOL!!!
