Florence M. Whinery, age 99, passed away on Friday, October 1,2010 at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on January 4, 1911 in Logan County, Kansas, the daughter of Samuel W. and Henrietta C. Ludolph West. A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1930 moving from the Russell Springs, Kansas area, she was a homemaker.
She loved helping others and went out of her way to be kind and generous. For many years, she and her husband followed the wheat harvest from Texas to Montana every summer, taking their children on this annual trek. She developed many long-lasting friendships during this time.
Her memberships include the Assembly of God Church of Scott City, Kansas.
On November 14, 1942 she married Elmer M. Whinery. He passed away on December 11, 1986 in Scott City, Kansas.
Survivors Include her Three Sons - Donald H. West of Gresham, Oregon, John L. Whinery of Scott City, Kansas, Alan G. Whinery of Waldorf, Maryland, One Daughter - Retta Whinnery of Shawnee, Kansas, Four Grandchildren, Five Great Grandchildren and Two Great Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Two Brothers and Three Sisters.
Funeral Service will be held at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 with the Rev. Robert Nuckolls presiding.
Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the Scott County Hospital Or Park Lane Nursing Home % Price & Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.
