Last week was the annual Wichita County Free Fair in Leoti. More people than ever came from far and wide to participate in the 4-day-long festivities. Ticket sales went over the top!!!
Though our family was only able to attend the fair on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, as always, we were quite impressed with the Wichita County Amusement Association "Carnies"! Every year, these volunteers go out of their way to share some sunshine and thrills with children of all ages. I'd also like to complement the WCAA for the way that they moved the rides, etc around so that there was more breathing room!!! We also were very impressed with the new Methodist Church building! It is quite modern now to handle the constantly increasing number of customers.
Other people who need to be recognized at this point are the officers of the Wichita County Sheriff's Department. Day after day, they maintained their daily duties. Evening after evening, they walked and patroled through the fairgrounds to assure that all went well. Night after night, the officers remained at the fairgrounds to prevent theft and damage to livestock and property.
The MANY local volunteers who worked at the rides, games, ticket booths, snack shacks, etc deserve a big thank you also. Without the volunteers, our carnival would not be what it has become throughout the years.
As you know, my sister, Lori, was admitted into the Hays Medical Center on Friday afternoon. Her husband, Leif, is the president of the Amusement Association. As soon as he realized that Lori had been admitted, Dennis and Jeanette Miller generously volunteered to take over for him. THANK YOU!!! Lori REALLY needed Leif with her!!!
Now, we are looking forward to another great fair in 2011...
