Wichita County Schools

As you now, a murder took place in Leoti yesterday. The victim's children attend school in both , Leoti and Tribune. The victim was popular with many kids because she was a sponsor of God Squad which is a Christian based organization that meets at the Methodist Church every Wednesday. MANY kids throughout the community from kindergarten through fifth grade attend God Squad every week.

As I wrote last night, I was hoping that counseling would be available to kids today. I now know for sure that that is going to happen at least in grade school. A counseler will be available all day to guide the students through this. I am assuming that another counseler will be in the junior/senior high. Both schools are now integrated in the high school building as construction is underway to build new domes for the entire school district.

Children are having a very difficult time dealing with this issue. As parents, we must do our best to help our children get through this the absolute best that we can. Believe me, yesterday was a day that will be forever engraved in our children's minds and hearts. If you feel that you are unable to handle this or to give adequate support to them right now, you may want to call your child's school teacher or principal, Mrs. McKinney--375-2314 or Mr. Higgens--375-2213, or your minister or Area Mental Health in Scott City, 872-5338. Area children love and adore Kevin Larson at Christ Covenant Church. He is the only youth minister in Wichita County and he is totally AMAZING! Kevin is the leader of GAP in Leoti which is the Christian-based organization that welcomes kids from 6th through 12th grade every Wednesday evening. MANY people are going to be depending on him at this time. You DO NOT need to be a member of Christ Covenant Church to call on him! You can reach him at home, 375-2061 or at the church, 375-4228.

We need to be especially tuned in to local youth at this time. They went through another young man's suicide last Spring which took a major toll on them and now this.

Keep sending those much-needed and greatly answered prayers upwards!

In God we trust...
