Nitrate Levels in Drinking Water

If you are like me, you tire quickly of hearing just how much "better" Europe and other foreign countries are than the good ol' United States of America. I realize that Europe is ahead of the U.S. in regards to clothing fashions, etc. To some people, that is awfully difficult to take if you are a person who strives to be up-to-date on what styles of clothing you purchase and wear. But I just received some information that I believe is far more inportant that the current length of skirts in Europe. It is the fact that the United States government is much more careful about the quantity of nitrates in our water that we ingest every single day. Nitrates have been proven over and over again that they cause cancer.

At this current time, Leoti is facing high numbers of nitrates in our water wells. The City of Leoti employees are being very careful to gather those levels and send them on to the state officials. I am not going to sit here and lie to you about what those levels are in Leoti right now. If you live in Leoti, you are also being sent letters in the mail alerting you of the current situation. But, something that I find to be very soothing is the fact that the United States officials get concerned BEFORE the nitrates become 20 parts. In all other foreign nations, including European countries, their cut-off for getting concerned is when their water measures 50 parts. What a difference!!!

Once the nitrates reach a serious level, cities across the nation purchase water filters that are placed on water pumps. These filters remove the nitrates that we would otherwise swallow.
