Oh, my!

I try to use my blog as a tool to help inform local people of what has happened, what is happening and what will happen in the future. That way, such things as school Christmas programs, movies at the Star Theatre, etc can be sent out to anyone who might be interested. I also try to use it as a learning tool. This morning, when I punched the keys of my computer's keyboard, I was only trying to "educate" people on why it is that we need to "follow the rules" and fill out our letter envelopes the way that we were taught when we were in grade school. I NEVER intended for this to become a blood bath. I hate that personalities have been slapped along the way.

I would like to say that since I was a young girl, I got to know all of the postmasters whom Leoti has had through the years. They include Don French, Casey, some temporary people and now, Steve. They were all very good and responsible postmasters whom deserved our trust in their positions. Since we started receiving our mail at home, I have had very little need to spend much time in the postmaster's office. Even so, I have done business with Steve a few times both in person and over the phone. I always felt that he was very kind, courteous and helpful in whatever I needed. Others have also told me the same thing. Adrienne Burch brought up a VERY true statement. She basically told us that each of these postmasters has his own personality, some are outgoing, some are more serious, some are only business-like. More importantly, they get the job done. I TOTALLY agree with her. When it comes right down to it, postmasters are people first and officials of the postal service second. I HATE it when people slam someone to the ground because of some outward expression. One thing that I learned many-a-day ago is that you reap what you sow. If you face any individual with no smile on your face, you shouldn't be irritated when he/she doesn't smile at you. If you spread happiness and joy to the people around you, chances are that the same people will be more likely to share happiness and joy with you and the other people along the way.

For the last 2 decades or so, we have all read in the newspapers or seen on the ten o'clock news that violence broke out in some mail room somewhere in the U.S. Wanna know why??? It is because people who work in the postal service are constantly under stress. One of those reasons is because of US--you and me. We expect perfection out of our postal employees even though we do not feel the need to be as perfect as we should be when we do such simple things as fill out the fronts of our envelopes correctly BEFORE we drop them in the mail slot.

I have NO idea what has or has not happened in the Leoti, Ks post office or any other post office, for that matter. Chances are that most of us who are just looking inside from the outside, do not. It makes sense that the people who do in fact know what happens in the mailroom are the actual employees working there. I would like to put an end to the nastiness that my simple post has created. Instead of name calling, etc., let us, EVERY ONE of us, drop all of this now. From here on out, anyone who sends any kind of mail needs to do their utmost best to fill out their return address completely, fill out all of the (CORRECT) information for the person who you are mailing the envelope to AND don't forget to do YOUR part in making sure that your CURRENT address, etc gets to all of your family, friends, and any businesses that you are involved in. Don't expect the postal employees to "find you" with mail that has incorrect address information that you never updated to the people or businesses who send mail to you.

One more thing, Folks. As the Good Book says, we ALL need to treat one another the way that we want to be treated...

  2. You/re VERY welcome, Adrienne!!! I, too, spent many years "working behind the counter" and though, for the most part, I loved it, there were also days when it seemed like everyone who worked in the store got the blame for a gallon of sour milk that went out the day before. LOL!!!

I sooo appreciate each and every comment that is left here and I respect everyone's opinions. Lord knows that we all have them!!! It just got to the point where things were RAPIDLY getting out of hand. I felt like I needed to do whatever I could to squelch things before people got any more hurt that they already were.

I HOPE that people understand that I was not trying to point fingers at anyone. And, by the way, Adrienne, I have always appreciated your work and your smiling face at the post office!!! It really bugs me to walk in to any office or store and have people either "pretend that I never walked in" or be sluggish.
Bottom line is that none of us are perfect--least of all, ME!!!
