Some clarification needs to be given on my blog

Earlier, I wrote about how we need to make sure that we do our part in insuring that our mail gets to whomever it is intended and that people who send us mail, have all of the up-to-date information that is required to get their mail delivered to us smoothly. I guess that I was not completely clear on the matters in how I printed them here. Here in small towns like Leoti where it seems that we all know each other, we have gotten spoiled thinking that no matter what, our mail will catch up to us. That is lame to think that on our part.

I was DEFINITELY NOT slamming the Leoti post office nor any other post office in the United States of America!!! In grade school, students are taught how to appropriately address any letters or packages that they send to others. We are taught that it is VERY important that we include our return address. Just to spell this out to some who may not know what I am talking about, that is YOUR mailing address in the upper left hand corner of the envelope. It should include your first and last name on the top line followed by your mailing address which would either be your post office box or drawer box or street address only IF you receive your mail at home. The third line should be your current town, city or county seat and state. You should write your zip code on the fourth line. For instance, in my case, the return address would be:

Lynn Elder-Blau
703 N. Second Street
Leoti, Kansas
67861

After that, the mailing address needs to be clear and concise and UP-TO-DATE. For instance, if I am sending a letter or package to Mr. John Jones, I need to write his first and last name on the first line of the mailing address in the center of the front side of the envelope. His mailing address should be on the second line. His city and state should be located on the third line followed by his zip code on the fourth line.

Such as:

Mr. John Jones
P.O. Box 123
Center City, New York
45678

In the case of children still living at home, your letters should be addressed to that person on the top line. The second line should be the name of the actual parent whom the child lives with, followed by the mailing address on the third line, city and state on the fourth line, zip code on the fifth line. Example:

Leighlyn and Abigayle Blau
c/o Stan Blau
703 N. Second Street
Leoti, Ks.
67861

That way, when mail arrives at the post office, workers don't have to try to figure out who the child's parents are. In families where there are several households headed by people of the same last name, less confusion will take place.

If you are sending correspondence to someone at their employment address, it should be sent like this

Tedious Printing
Attention: Lynn Blau
703 N. Second Street
Leoti, Kansas
67861

All writing needs to be CLEARLY handwritten or typed.

We need to remember that it is NOT our postal workers job to remember that our name changed such as when we got married recently. It is OUR duty to go to the post office right away after we have changed our name for what ever reason and fill out the small amount of paperwork necessary so that they know that there has been a name change. At the same time, if you will no longer be receiving mail at your prior address, you need to let the employees know that and let them know where it will be deliverable such as in your new husband's post office box. THEN, you need to contact anyone whom will be possibly sending mail to you such as your family, friends, businesses, employers, etc., etc.,... and give them your new name and new address.

Mail ends up being thrown away when the sender is too lazy to write or type his or her return address on the envelope. I did NOT mean to imply that our postal workers will just throw our mail away for the heck of it all when the sendee's mailing address was not adequate for whatever reason!!!

Postal workers are human also and require our input in order for the mail to flow smoothly and swiftly.

I apologize for any ruffling of feathers that my previous post may have caused! I was simply trying to remind people that we all need to work together with this task at hand.

VLE-B
