Stupid is as stupid does

This is one of the many phrases that became quite popular once Tom Hanks' movie, FORREST GUMP, came out years ago. His mama always told him that "stupid is as stupid does." Those words came back to me as I watched the KSN News that I had recorded on our DVR last night just a few minutes ago...

Boot Hill and Front Street of Dodge City, Kansas are internationally known. People come from far and wide to step back into the good ol' days. It seems that a man, his wife and a female friend stopped by to go through this historical site yesterday. In case you have not gone through Boot Hill recently, I will try to describe the situation for you. Front Street is located just lower than where the Boot Hill Museum is. The museum has been greatly improved over the past few years. My family and I thoroughly enjoy going through it. At the back of the museum, is a door that leads onto the cemetery where cowboys--good and bad guys--were buried with their boots on. In past years, the bodies were dug up and buried elsewhere. But crosses remain there that were used to identify the body and things that happened to that person that led up to their deaths. In the center of all of this, stands a tree with two nooses hung on it. Of course, for most of us, the nooses just add that much more somber credence to the way that the citizens of the Old West lived--and died.

Yesterday, a man, his wife and a female friend of theirs stopped by Boot Hill to take a look around. The man came complete with his own camera. Once he had located the nooses, he decided that he would like to take a realistic picture of himself with his neck inside one of the nooses. Somehow, the man seems to have lost his footing which caused the noose to tighten around his neck. He passed out quickly. Thanks to the Good Lord, his female companions got to him just in the knick of time. The man was a very large man. The women struggled to get his body out of the noose but they were able to succeed in doing so. An ambulance was called to the scene. The man was then taken to the hospital in Dodge City where he remains today in stable condition.

So, now, I assume that the nooses will have to be dismantled to protect others from the same fate.

Stupid is as stupid does...
