Last night, a group of us sat in Leif and Lori's front yard so that we could enjoy the fireworks display there. We had a great time! Afterwards, all of us gathered our own fireworks and drove to a location in the country to fire them off. Once we had left the city lights behind, we were amazed at just how many more stars you see when you are actually situated in the dark.
I mentioned that the girls and I are planning on laying a blanket out in the yard sometime. We will them lie down on it and just enjoy the night sky. My grandma was sitting next to me and remembered that back when she was a child, they had no electricity. Therefore, they had no air conditioning systems of any kind. At night on those very hot days, being inside the house was all but unbearable. No one would have been comfortable sleeping there. They would gather their blankets and pillows and move outdoors. She said that she has such fond memories of those times. Of course, most of us in the U.S. have air conditioning in our homes so it is much easier to sleep indoors than it was back then. I would like to suggest that now while our weather is still very warm at night, that we, too, make our memories of sleeping outdoors sometimes. I do not mean sleeping in tents or campers. I mean just lieing out in the yard sometime and just enjoying all that our skies have to offer...
