Marian was born April 3, 1926 at Tribune, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Bessie Ritter Pearson. Marian attended elementary school in the rural Greeley County, Kansas school system and graduated from Greeley County High School in 1943. Due to the outbreak of World War Two and a shortage of capable men, she began her career as an educator, first at Thelma School in rural Greeley County, spending several years in both the Stanton & Stevens County School Districts and continuing for the next thirty nine years, ending with her retirement in 1982 at the Wichita County Junior High School. For three generations of students, she taught in Tribune, Moscow, Johnson and Leoti, Kansas. “Mrs. Day” was best known for the paddle she had made and her utilization of it in correction of the more unruly students, after which one was given the “honor” of autographing said implement. Marian loved gardening and creating palettes of color to adorn her patio. She especially enjoyed traveling the United States and would “hit the road” as often as possible. When someone mentioned that they would like to see some part of the country, Marian was known to state, “ Well, I’ll go with you, let’s pack”. Marian was a grand fisherwoman, and spent many days with her family at Swanson Reservoir in Nebraska, often using her handmade club to get the big one’s in the boat for pictures of proof of the one’s that didn’t get away. Marian was a member of the National Education Association, Kansas Education Association, the Leoti United Methodist Church, Leoti United Methodist Women and the Leoti chapter of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
