They say that it is not fit for man nor beast outdoors...

so what do we do??? We invite the cold indoors, of course!!!

Last week, I cautioned people that we would be plagued with extremely cold wind chill temperatures yesterday and today. So our family took extra precautions. Indoors, we kept a steady, narrow stream of water in all three sinks going at all times. Whenever any of us had to go outside, we piled on extra clothes. For example, poor Danley was exhausted by the time that he got home from work yesterday because of the fact that he had had to wear a long-sleeved t-shirt, long-sleeved shirt, jeans, insulated socks, hightop workboots, overalls, heavy coat, winter cap and to top it all off, the great neckscarf that Lori had knitted him for Christmas all day. He probably lost at least 5 pounds during the day! LOL!!!

Abigayle wore her heavy clothes, furry boots, heavy coat, neckscarf, winter cap, gloves that stretched from her fingertips to her elbows. Leighlyn stayed home as she was dealing with the flu. (Now, Abigayle is sick.)

I am not ever supposed to be outside in temperatures like these because I take a good chance of having a heart attack because of my mechanical heart valve. However, I still need to be responsible for my work. So, I dressed warmly, wore my heavy coat and the scarf that Lori had knitted for me. Believe me, it was miserable out there! I did my best not to breathe in the fresh air but I still ended up with some mild chest pain.

So, anyway, everyone is looking forward to a nice hot meal. We ate it, spent some quality with one another and then went to bed even earlier than normal. By 3:00 a.m., Danley and I were f-r-e-e-z-i-n-g!!! Stan got up and checked out things. He soon discovered that the utility room door that leads to the yard, had not been latched properly when we let the herd back in just before we went to bed. The wind had blown it open and the cold was coming in to warm up for awhile!

Of course, Danley closed it. By the time that the girls and I awakened at 7:00, the house was nice and comfortable.

By the way, at 7:43 this morning, it is -5 degrees outside. I have no idea what the wind chill temperature is!
