Robert F. Berning--Marienthal and Leoti

(September 27, 1945 - December 11, 2011)

Robert Frederick Berning, age 66, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas following a 3 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Robert was born September 27, 1945 at the Berning family homestead near Marienthal, Kansas the son of Anthony John & Hilda Laura Simons Berning. A 1963 graduate of Wichita County High School, he was a farmer and a lifetime resident of Marienthal, Kansas. He had served in the United States Army Reserves from 1964 through 1970. The things he loved most were his kids, grandkids, his dogs, farming, fishing and hunting.

Robert was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and St. Mary Parish Council all of Marienthal, Kansas. He served on the Wichita County School Board, Wichita County Soil Conservation Board, was a former 4-H leader and Little League coach.

On June 10, 1967 he married Roxanna McIntyre at St Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas. Roberts surviving family includes- His Wife- Roxanna Berning- Marienthal, Kansas Four Children- Rod & Jill Berning- Modoc, Kansas Robbie & Brecken Berning- Leoti, Kansas Renissa & Darren Riley- Augusta, Kansas Ryan & Melissa Berning- Augusta, Kansas Nine Grandchildren- Shaelee Berning - Modoc,Kansas Chandler Berning- Modoc, Kansas Laura & Rem Dyas- Hillsboro, Illinois Tate Berning- Leoti, Kansas Kyler Berning- Leoti, Kansas Nolan Riley- Augusta, Kansas Camrea Riley- Augusta, Kansas Tenley Berning- Augusta, Kansas Talen Berning- Augusta, Kansas One Great Grandson- Gavin Reid Dyas- Hillsboro, Illinois And his loyal dog Rowdy Two Brothers- Eugene Berning- Leoti, Kansas Edmund Berning- Marienthal, Kansas Two Sisters- Joan Jesko- Hereford, Texas Virginia Knobbe- Marienthal, Kansas Numerous Nieces, nephews and friends. His Parents, a brother, John Berning, a sister, Mary Louise Simon and one grandson, Anthony Chase Berning preceded him in death.

Vigil Services will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at St Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at the Church with Father Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marienthal, Kansas with Military Honors provided by the United States Army Funeral Detail, Fort Riley, Kansas.

Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday and from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary Catholic Church or the Robert F. Berning Memorial Fund to be divided among several different charities.
