Another Blog Moment

One day this week, I loaded the girls and another teenage girl who is just like a daughter to me, into the Buick and we headed to Dollar General to pick up some groceries for dinner. Once we were on Main Street, we saw a pile of something in the middle of the road. When we got closer, we realized that the pile consisted of clothing. Leaving them on the road seemed totally unacceptable to me. The longer that they remained there, the smaller the chances that they would be suitable for wearing later. I turned the car around so that we could pick them up. The girls in the backseat were about to die laughing. I pulled the car over to the side of the road and asked them to pick them up for me. Lots of traffic was coming from both directions. It became clear that none of them wanted to do this. So...I picked them up and threw them into the backseat. One ladies undergarment smacked one girl right in the face. I totally did not mean for this to happen!!! These clothes were still in good shape but were wet. When I got back onto the road, I noticed that a man a block in front of us had also stopped to pick up another pile of clothing. At first, I had planned on turning the wet clothes in to the dispatcher at the sheriff's office. Instead, I drove to the man in front of us and asked if the garments belonged to him--or someone whom he knew. (Some of the clothes were ladies undergarments. I hardly thought that they were his.) When we reached the gentleman, I asked him if these clothes belonged to him. Unfortunately, the man spoke very little English. He did walk to our car to retrieve the clothing that we held up for him. He seemed happy to have them. To this day, we have no idea how the clothes ended up on the road. Maybe they had been laundered at the laundry mat and blew out of a pickup.

After we had given the clothes to the man, I drove on and made a u-turn so that we would be in the right direction to go to Dollar General. In the car with me, were two teenagers and one pre-teen. All were giggling loudly. Once again, their old mom had really embarrassed them. The good news is that they are still getting into vehicles with me. I must not've embarrassed them too much...yet.
