At 9:30 in the morning, it is -7 degrees outside. That does NOT include the windchill after the strong winds that we are receiving are figured into the equation! I am sooo very happy that the powers-that-be at the Wichita County Schools decided to call off school for today!!!
The sun is out so I doubt that any new snow is falling but a little bit of it is still blowing. Most of the snow is frozen into place wherever it met with the other snowflakes that fell before it. LOL! This is definitely one of those days where none of us should be venturing out unless absolutely necessary!
In the cold such as this, animals require even more food than normal so that they can keep their body heat up where it belongs. That means that people such as truck drivers carrying the feed still need to be out there in the elements. Danley is just one of the many people who are having to endure this cold. He wore insulated underwear, heavy jeans, a long-sleeved t-shirt, s long-sleeved workshirt, an insulated wrap around his neck and mouth, overalls, a pull-over windbreaker, a thick cap AND a heavy coat. He has insulated socks under his boots and heavy gloves on his hands. You'd think that he would be melting, don't you? Guess again. Whenever he is outside of his truck unloading it, the chill still manages to get in to get to his body!
I feel soooo sorry for those people who have to be out in this!!! Tonight, Danley will come home to a crockpot full of nice hot chili with all of the fixin's.
Along with this intense cold, water lines tend to freeze up and then burst. The good news is that all water at our house is running EXCEPT to the toilet in the main bathroom which is located on an exterior wall. To battle this freezing possibility, we left a very thin stream of water falling from all of our sinks. Unfortunately, no one felt like staying up all night just so that they could flush the toilet over and over again. LOL!!! I am VERY thankful that we were smart enough to leave the rest of the water going! Otherwise, we'd have nothing right now.
Key words here are "STAY INSIDE"! Again, a big thank you goes out to Dr. Hardy and Riley Allamen and anyone else who factored into the closing of the schools today!!!
VLE-B
