Have you ever looked at a picture of Abraham Lincoln or another gentleman who had a beard but no mustache? I have and have wondered why if a man sported a beard, why would he not want a mustache to go with it. Well here is your answer! I learned it last night on Larry the Cableguy's great new and very informative (not to mention, HILARIOUS) series about America. While he was spending time with "Plain People", the people who are Amish, Mennonites, Brethren, etc who live in certain areas of our country such as in Pennsylvania, he asked one of the men that question. The man who was Amish and had a mustache-less beard explained that for MANY years, a good number of American people believed that the only men who should wear a mustache are the men who have been enlisted in the various military branches of the U.S. Therefore, a man who was entitled to wear a mustache was entitled strictly as an honor to that man. (As for us women with mustaches, unless we were or are in the military, we should probably shave them off. LOL!!!)
Anyway, I was really impressed with the reasoning of wearing mustaches. I thought that you might be interested in this also.
