Another Big Day at the Washington-Ames House

During the past year, the antique home that was formerly the home of the Washington and Ames families, has gone through many positive changes. Today its landscaping gets a major boost. Very tall and bushy trees were delivered to the house that now belongs to the Wichita County Historical Society last week. Today, the fine folks of Wheatland Electric drove two of their trucks to the location. Each of these trucks has equipment built in that digs the holes for the large electric poles. By using this equipment, a WHOLE LOT of time and energy is saved in digging the holes for the new trees.

A year ago, the children of the late Mrs. Margie Ames-Taggert donated the property to the society so that it could be used as an addition to the Wichita County Museum that is so well thought of already. Mrs. Karen (Curt) Walk of Leoti is the leader of everything that has been done on the interior and now the exterior of the house. Any of us who know Karen know what an outstanding job she does at EVERYTHING! She is such a great delight to all of us!!!

Soon, the rest of the house's exterior will be redone. If you have not already toured the W-A House, you just might want to do it soon. I am confident that you will be quite impressed with the work that has already been done! I know that many of us have been reluctant to go through the house this past summer because of the heat. That is no longer a problem. A new central air system has been added in the past month.
