William R. "Bill" Saunders--Garden City

(October 12, 1930 - November 7, 2011)

William R. “Bill” Saunders, age 81, died Monday, November 7, 2011 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on October 12, 1930 in Pleasanton, Kansas, the son of G.R. and Blanche Winslow Saunders. Bill received his Education Specialist Degree from Pittsburg State College in Pittsburg, Kansas. In 1956 he moved to Garden City, Kansas where he worked as a teacher at Abe Hubert Middle School.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Garden City, Kansas. He also belonged to the Finney County Historical Society and the Kansas National Education Association. Bill was well known for being a community volunteer.

On June 5, 1955 he married Marilyn Ruth Taylor in Fort Scott, Kansas. She died August 21, 1995 in Garden City, Kansas.

Survivors include: Two Daughters, Ann Knoll of Garden City, Kansas and Susan (& Ron) Heddleson of Plymouth, Minnesota; One Grandson, Jeff Knoll of Katy, Texas and One Granddaughter, Amy Knoll of El Dorado, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother, George Saunders.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, November 10, 2011@ the Presbyterian Church in Garden City, Kansas.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00pm on Wednesday and from Noon-5:00pm on Thursday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.

Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the Bill Saunders Memorial Fund or to the donors choice in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
