Upcoming Birthday

I can hardly believe it but our baby, Abigayle, will be 9-years-old on Sunday!!! Nine years ago today, Stan and I were airlifted from Scott City, Kansas, to Denver, Colorado so that I could be prepped for a c-section that would be done almost a full month before Abi was actually due. All of this was due to the fact that it had just been discovered that I had a bad heart condition, (an aneurisym in my aortic valve which was deadly.) Once we landed at Presbyterian St. Lukes, work began immediately to prepare for little Abi's birth. I received several shots to speed the maturation of her lungs. They worked!

The entire time that we were in Denver that time, almost 2 weeks, I was kept in the intensive care unit of their world known Obstetrics Department. It was quite interesting. Most women who were waiting there to give birth, were women who were carrying 3 or more babies. Many of them had literally been there for several months! The day that Abigayle was born, two sets of triplets were delivered just a little while earlier.
Abi was born a beautiful healthy bouncing little bundle of joy! Doctors told us that had I not been pregnant with her, we never would have known that I had this heart problem. You see, it had no symptoms. You felt fine right up until your dying day... Scary, huh? Because of the stress of the pregnancy, I did have symptoms including major fatigue, chest pains, etc. Once I had delivered Abigayle, my problems did not evaporate. Five weeks later, I would be lifewatched from Leoti back to Denver for major heart surgery that we had hoped could be put off for 3 months. That time, we spent 3 weeks away from our sweet daughters. That was the toughest part about being in the hospital for so long. Fortunately, my sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Leif Christensen, were back in Leoti giving outstanding care to both girls. To this day, both girls share a very tight bond with Leif and Lori.

So, anyway, Stan has taken Friday off from work so that he can go to school with me on Friday afternoon to give Abigayle's class party. (We'll be serving Kitty Litter!) We served it for Leighlyn's class and they LOVED it!!! We'll also be eating lunch with her at school that day. That night, several of her bestest friends will be coming here for her festive slumber party. Her family birthday party will be on Sunday. We can hardly wait!!!
