I failed to mention a couple of other things that happened on the day that Ms. Abigayle was born.
As I mentioned earlier, I was in very poor health the day that Abi was born. Ordinarily, I would have had a c-section done with me knocked out like I was for Leighlyn's birth. Most doctors who are delivering babies of mothers who have Bi-Polar Disorder, prefer it that way. For the entire pregnancy, that was the plan. But once doctors realized how touchy my health was, they knew that the more anesthesia I was on, the less the chances were for me to survive the operation. So, I was just given a spinal which was fine with me! That way, I got to be awake when my little angel was born!
Because of my health and the fact that Lori had never seen a human baby born, she asked doctors if she could be in the delivery room. It was great with us and the doctors so she got to be there for the entire thing. She and Stan spent most of their time up by my head. Because of my condition, there were two obstetricians and a cardiologist present. An anesthesiologist also had to be there to control the medicine going in to my system. Once Abigayle was born, one of the obstetricians asked Lori if she wanted to cut the umbilical cord. The three of us were a little surprised that Lori was asked to do this instead of Stan. When we questioned this, the doctor told us that they had thought that Lori and I were "life partners" and Stan was merely the sperm donor. We all had a good laugh on that one! LOL!!! So, Stan got to cut the cord afterall.
Now as soon as the doctors and nurses were pleased with Abigayle's condition, they wrapped Abi up in a blanket and allowed Stan to carry her out into the hallway to show her off to her big sister, Nonny and her big cousin, Lars. Something that I have not mentioned here is that because Stan and Lori were going to be in a surgical delivery room, they needed to wear scrubs. Nurses had had a difficult time of finding scrub pants to fit Stan so they instructed him to just wear the best fitting ones over his jeans. As he left the delivery room and walked to the area where the rest of the family was anxiously waiting to welcome Abi into the family, his scrubs dropped to his ankles! (Good thing that he had jeans on underneath them...) Stan was so busy crying many tears of joy and relief, that he never noticed that the scrubs had fallen!!!
These are just two of the many stories that we enjoy sharing with others!
