Ah--ah--CHOO!!!!!!!!!!!

That seems to be the word of the day in Western Kansas! Winds--very strong winds, have been blowing here for the past few days. Along with them, has come lots and LOTS of blowing dust. Due to lack of moisture and the strong winds, Red Flag Weather Alerts have been set up. Satanta is south of Wichita County. There were wild fires headed straight towards the town yesterday. At least one house was completely destroyed. All of Satanta's residents were evacuated from the town for several hours. The last that I knew, no injuries were reported. Thank You, God!!!

This week is the Kansas State English Testing through schools. In recent years, teachers have asked parents to send food for their child's class to eat before the testing begins. We were asked to send a casserole this morning. Leighlyn and I went through a bunch of breakfast recipes but settled on the idea of scrambling eggs with a bunch of sausage and then adding cheddar cheese. But we forgot that Mel's closes early on Sundays. That meant that we had no other choice but to east to Scott City so that we could buy some Jimmy Dean Pork Sausage and 5 dozen eggs. It takes a lot of food to fill 7th graders tummies up so that they can perform better on tests!

We left Leoti sometime after 6:00. The trip to S.C. was HORRIBLE!!! Dirt and tumbleweeds were EVERYWHERE!!! Five or six times, our visibility was less than 20 feet. It was as translucent as mud. Leighlyn and I spoke to God several times about not only keeping us safe but for keeping all of the other people on the roads safe also. We probably spent less than 30 minutes in Scott City before we headed back home. Driving back to Leoti was better. Winds were still terrible but there was a decreased amount of dust in the air. I assume that by that time, all of the dirt north of Highway 96 had been relocated to lands south of Highway 96. LOL!!!

I noticed that everywhere I went today, people were sneezing or coughing. My asthma is acting up some but I haven't had any attacks yet. I am sure that many other asthmatics are having attacks.

Hopefully, the winds will die soon and the dirt will once again settle...somewhere.
