Lice Alert

Just found out today that lice have made their way into our schools, etc again.  If you have children in our local school, the nurse is checking them to see if they have any lice and/or eggs in their hair.  If your child does, the school nurse will call you immediately to let you know.  As I understand it, anyone with live lice will be sent home.  Lice are not particular about where they live.  Clean hair, dirty hair, it doesn't matter.  They jump from person to person with no problem.  That's why schools and other institutions have such problems with this.  Even standing in check-out lines in a grocery store is all it takes to pass the bugs around.

If someone has lice, special lice shampoos can be purchased over the counter.

I also learned of a preventative that can be used if you or someone you know has been around someone who has lice.  I was told that white vinegar can be rubbed into the person's hair.  Once the hair is soaked with it, cover the hair with a plastic bag followed by a towel.  The towel will keep the heat from the head in place so that the heat can help the vinegar to work better.  Leave this on your hair for one full hour.  Rinse.  Shampoo and condition as normal.  I do NOT know that this procedure works.  A couple of people told me that this is what they do in circumstances like this.  It seems to work for them.

All of your bedding needs to be laundered thoroughly also.

If you have any other questions, I'd recommend that you contact your health department or clinic.
