Additional Information on Courthouse Flower Garden

As you drive by the Wichita County Courthouse, take a gander at the garden just to the north of the West Entrance. It has really been going to town with growth this summer! As I mentioned earlier, it was put in out of respect and memory of Karla Giesick-Ridder.

Today, I learned of more information in regards to it. I want to share it with you. Carol Crowley-Laws wrote and received a $5,000.00 grant to really fix the corner up that had only had a tree and weeds growing in it previously. In addition to the grant which was used to purchase shrubbery, etc., Sharon Altman, Wichita County Treasurer, purchased sosme tulip plants from the Tremor Foundation to be planted there. When Sharon celebrated her birthday, her friends purchased a Rose of Sharon for her. She elected to plant it right there in the courthouse garden.

Carol Laws has been dedicating her time and energy to weed and water the garden to keep it looking so good.

On the west side of the North entrance is a bench that was built by Don and Carolyn Waldren.

So, next time that you're out and about, take a look at the garden and bench. I am sure that you will be quite impressed!

  1. Just an FYI - the grant the county received for this project was from the Wichita County Community Foundation. The Wichita County Community Foundation is a not-for-profit public charity formed to serve as a vehicle to accept contributions and establish endowments to support worthy projects and causes in Wichita County.
