Wichita County Girl and Boy Scouts

When I was a child back in the late 60s and 70s, many people continued to use the old city park. As time passed, few of those people continued to grace the park with their presence even though the park had served Wichita County people for so many years. It was sad. Most people never paid much attention to it until it became news around town several years ago that a family of "hippies" had taken up housekeeping in the cub house. THEN...all of a sudden, people from all over town made drive after drive past the park to see if they could see some hippies!!!

Though I only had the opportunity to see these people once or twice, the rumors around town actually helped to breathe new life into this section of town! Since then, concrete walking paths have been added along with new BBQ grills, some new playground equipment, etc. I would love to see even more playground equipment added to the park. We attended a party of about 20-30 people there in May. It was great except for the fact that we had to furnish our own tables and chairs. It'd be great to see a few picnic tables placed there.

More and more families and couples are starting to spend more time at this old gem. Unfortunately, wherever people go, they leave trash behind them. Today, the Wichita County Girl and Boy Scouts spent around an hour gathering trash and disposing it. It is great to see our children taking responsibility for keeping our public areas clean! If you happen to know one of these kids or their sponsors, thank them for what they do!!! Praise is sooo much more beneficial than criticism and both the giver and the receiver appreciate it! Try it!!! The sponsors for the Girl Scouts are Kelly Matteson, Tammy Mason and Theo Volden. The only sponsors for Boy Scouts who I am aware of are Buck and Jaime Brown-Bishop. I am sure that there are others. I apologize for not knowing who they are...

I would also like to thank the City of Leoti Employees for maintaining the park so very well! Not every town has parks in such good condition...
