Once upon a time when I was a child, the Leoti landfill or junkyard as we referred to it back then, was never locked up. At that time, it was located between Mark Berning's house and the railroad tracks. Many a weekend, Daddy hauled our junk out there. My sisters and I were only TOO happy to accompany him on these jaunts.
Once there, we saw everything that others had dumped. Some was junk, for sure. Other things were still really kool! I can remember finding a bunch of toys that Al Droste had just deposited there. At other times, we found perfectly good furniture. We scooped those treasures up and brought them home!
Not too long ago, I heard of some homeowners who had just purchased a home in Leoti and didn't care for the new kitchen cabinets that had just been put into the home a year earlier. The style was not what the new homeowners appreciated. When the carpentars arrived to begin the demolition of the kitchen which had to be done before the new cabinets could be installed, they were instructed to load the so-called "old" ones up and haul them to the landfill. Things like that really upset me. You and I both know that there were plenty of people in Wichita County who would have loved to have had them!!!
Anyway, I want to get something started on my blog that would benefit MANY of us. If you have something, ANYTHING, that you no longer want or need, could you please let me know? Then, I will post that information on my blog for others to read. I really think that we can avoid filling our landfill with items that are thrown away prematurely.
Many of us are doing our Spring Cleaning in our homes and in our yards at this time of the year. Things that we want to get rid of now could definitely help someone else out.
