Somber anniversary

Just a sad note here. Many of you remember that May 25th of 1976 was a very sad day full of turmoil in Wichita County. Police Chief Carl Simons was slain just north of the Leoti city limits. He left behind his wife and 2 daughters--one was getting ready to be married. The other was still in high school.

The following day, MANY people decided that it was time to install door locks at their homes for the first time. Way before noon, Western Hardware had sold every last lock in the building. People began locking up their vehicles also. Wichita County had lost it's much-coveted innocence...
