Don Platt--Colorado Springs

Don was married to my cousin, Shirley Strobridge. Her parents were Frank and Addie Strobridge who were former residents of Leoti before they moved to Colorado Springs decades ago. Our grandparents are Roy and Helen (Graham) Elder. VLE-B


Donald J. Platt, 70, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed into the arms of the Lord at his home surrounded by loved ones on May 15, 2011 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Don was born on March 3, 1941 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Morris and Stella (Prossen) Platt, who preceded him in death. Don served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee, having served in Vietnam. He was a truck driver for N.W. Transport for over 30 years. After retirement, he went to work in Nebraska as a fiber optic inspector. Don was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish. He was also known as the "camp cook" for Capital Peak Outfitters on the western slope. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Brandon. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 46 years, Shirley(Strobridge)Platt. Carrying on his legacy are two sons- Duane Back of Colorado Springs, Cole (Julie)Platt of Falcon, two daughters- Kim Morriss (Doug Lambert), Shawn (Dave) DallaGuardia of Pueblo and one brother Bob (Nancy) Platt. Left behind are nine adoring grandchildren-Jason Morriss, David Morriss, Mandi Schultz, Chandra Schmehr, Vicki DallaGuardia, David DallaGuardia, Nick Guynn, Addie and Cooper Platt and sixteen great-grandchildren. Don will always be remembered by his friends and extended family. Celebration of his life will be held at noon on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Disabled American Veterans Hall 6880 Palmer Park Blvd. In lieu of flowers, Don requested that donations be made in his name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation 26 Broadway 14th floor New York, NY 10004 1-800-533-2873 www.jdrf.org
