Update From Mr. Mora

Mr. Rene Mora just called me to update me on their situation. We want to pass that information on to all of you.

First of all, their house is a total loss. They were unable to insure their home until they had replaced their roof. They had not been able to do that before the fire. So, that means that there will be NO money coming in to re-build their home or to purchase another house. They are hoping to find a rent-to-buy home so that they do not have to come up with a down payment. If you know of any houses that are for sale now in Leoti that the owner would be willing to work out a rent-to-buy plan, please call Mr. and Mrs. Mora to give them that information. I will post their phone number at the bottom of this post.

At this time, they are living with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. DeLaCruz, in the former Robert B. Stewart home at 402 South 6th Street in Leoti.

No more help is needed at their former house as they just finished taking what was still salvageable out. They were able to save their clothing because it was at the other end of the house than where the fire was.

Here is a list of items that they must replace:

Washing machine (donated)

Dryer (donated)

Kitchen Stove

Refrigerator

Dishwasher

Living room furniture

Kitchen furniture:
table
chairs (donated)

Bedroom furniture (1 bed and 1 dresser have been donated)

Bath towels

Bedsheets, blankets, bedspreads, pillows, etc.

Curtains

Dinner plates

Silverware

Cooking pots and pans

Toaster

Microwave oven

Television (donated)

Basically, the only thing that they were able to save from the fire besides their personal clothing, was three pans. In other words, they are starting over completely.

If you have anything that you can donate to them, please take it to them at the DeLaCruz home at 402 S. 6th Street. If you prefer to give them gift cards, checks, money orders, cashier checks, etc., please send it to the following address:

Mr. and Mrs. Rene Mora

912 N. 6th Street

Leoti, Kansas

For more information, please contact the Moras at 620-214-2129.

Thank you sooooooooooo much for any help that you can give!!!

  1. Hi Lynne! Thanks for all the updates about the incident. We will be donating a used washer and dryer. They are both in great condition. I have contacted the De La Cruz family and they will be notifying Mr. & Mrs. Mora about our donation. You may remove these two items off the list. Thank You!
