Refried Beans Without the Frying

This is so EASY and DELICIOUS!!! You will need a crockpot (slowcooker) for this recipe.

1 onion; peeled and cut in half OR 4 tablespoons of dried chopped onion

3 cups UNCOOKED pinto beans; rinsed

1 jalapeno OR 1 small jar of chopped green chilies

2 tablespoons garlic powder

5 teaspoons salt

1 3/4 teaspoons ground black pepper

1/8 teaspoon cumin powder

9 cups water

Package or shredded cheddar or Mexican-Blend Cheese, if desired, for garnish

Cook all of these on LOW for 8 hours. After that, drain whatever excess of water they might be. Use a potato masher to mash everything. Once on a dinner plate, top with shredded cheddar or Mexican-Blend Cheese if desired.
