Ghosts???

It is that time of the year when people appear to be a bit more tuned into the aspect of ghosts than at other times.  Leighlyn checked out a book at the Jr/Sr High School Library yesterday.  It deals with ghost stories in Kansas.  She and I both found it to be quite interesting.  Most of the "events" written about were in Eastern Kansas but there were still some in Central and Western Kansas.  I have to admit that I was disappointed that Wichita County's White Woman event was not listed in the book.  The closest ghost story to us was in the Satanta County area.  It seems that the forts on the Kansas prairie are quite haunted...

I have discussed the story of the White Woman with others on a BUNCH of occassions.  Until the last few years, I was convinced that it was none other than a legend.  I was wrong on that one.  In case you have not heard the story, allow me to tell you now.

Back in the so-called "olden days", a man married the woman of his dreams somewhere east of here.  Right after the wedding, they hitched their horses to the wagon that contained all of the earthly possessions and headed out West for a good life.

Along the way, they stopped somewhere on the creek that is located to the south of Leoti and winds around to the area between Leoti and Tribune.  They ate their lunch and then loaded back up on their wagon to continue their journey.  Later in the afternoon, they noticed a tribe of Indians.  The husband told his wife that if worse turned to worst, he would meet her at the location where they had stopped to eat their lunch.  The Indians chased the couple in their wagon and soon caught the wagon.  The husband was killed at the scene and the woman was taken back to their village where she became their slave, so to speak.

For a great many years, people have claimed to have seen the ghost of the wife on the White Woman bridge just to the south of Leoti.  Those people believe that she remains there in wait of her husband to return to her.

Of course, I don't know if that is true or not.  I cannot say that I have seen her myself.  I am on the fence right now.  In some ways, I do not believe in ghosts but, in other ways, I believe that it is quite possible that ghosts do exist.  I have seen and heard stories that really point to the fact that ghosts may be amongst us right now and right here!!!  Some of those stories have come directly from people whom I put a great deal of respect.

If you are interested in posting your opinions, one way or the other, on my blog, I would greatly welcome them!  If you are like so many others and have difficulty getting to the point where you can leave a comment, send your opinion and/or ghost stories to me at slblaus@gmail.com .  When you send me your story, let me know whether or not you want me to post it here.  Also, let me know if you want me to mention your name or not.  I am more than happy to protect your privacy anytime that you give me your information!!!  I think that it would be rather awesome to list ghost stories right here on my blog!  What do you think???

Looking forward to hearing from YOU!!!
