Day 3

Things did not progress as well as we had originally hoped on our bathroom project yesterday. Removing the soaking tub was considerably tougher than what we had expected. The tub, itself, is huge and VERY heavy. When we purchased it, it had no "smooth" sides. One side went next to the wall. An end was placed next another wall. The other end which was where the faucet is, also fit next to a wall. That left one side that faced into the room. Sheets of marble were included in the price of the tub. It was needed to cover up the last side. Stan had to build a 4-sided wooden frame for the tub to sit down in. Once in place, he put the marble on the side that would be exposed to the room.

So once the tub was safely removed, Stan took out the marble and the portion of the frame that it had been attached to. That one side took a l-o-n-g time to tear down. Today, he has to remove the other 3 sides. Hopefully, they will come out much easier than the first.

You'll probably remember that the reason for re-doing the main bathroom was because of a water leak that had ruined portions of the floor. In a couple of places, linoleum was basically the only thing that seperated us from the ground below the house. Once the tub was pulled out and hauled into the dining room, we discovered that the leak had been doing MUCH more damage to the floor underneath it! We were very fortunate that we decided to do this project when we did! The tub would have been taking a major dip below the house very soon! Given the amount of the weight from the many gallons of water that it holds PLUS the weight of the person sitting in it, it would have been plunging sooner than later. Imagine ME in the tub... (Correction, PLEASE do not imagine that!!!) With my weight involved, it may have settled deep within the ground's surface... LOL!!!

So, Danley has already begun his work for the day at 9:00. Hopefully, we will be able to get the old floor (or what is left of it) out of the bathroom and the new floor put into place. (Maybe, we'll even succeed in getting some of the Allure laid also!)

So far, we have already discovered how having ONE bathroom for FOUR people actually works--not well. It seems like as soon as one person heads to the bathroom, 2 or 3 more people are standing on the other side of the door whining that the person in the bathroom needs to hurry up! LOL!!! Until 1977, my parents had a family of 5 (including 3 GIRLS) and only ONE bathroom. For a couple of years, our new house had 2 bathrooms. It was great! Then, our parents purchased a larger house that only had one bathroom. My father who was a carpenter and plumber, always intended on building a second bathroom. But we've all heard the saying that the shoemaker's kids always went shoeless... Well, Daddy was always too busy taking care of his business which put food on our table, that he never had the time to add the second bathroom. Somehow our family survived. In 1994, Mama and Daddy purchased a different house that came complete with two bathrooms. By that time, all three of their daughters were married and living in their own homes. Daddy died of cancer before the first anniversary in their home. So now, Mama rattles around in her house with the two bathrooms...

Anyway, Folks, I'll continue to update you on our progress as we go along.
