The Robert Bruce Stewart Elementary School in Leoti is participating in this very worthwhile promotion. Mrs. Jayme (Brown) Bishop is the grade school's very talented and appreciated vocal music instructor and the coordinator for this program. Following is what Mrs. Bishop had to say on this matter:
"Through the program, we can collect UPCs and beverage caps from participating products to earn points that can be redeemed for F-R-E-E music merchandise.
Our goal, from now until May 25th, 2011, is to collect 12,000 points that we can redeem for musical instruments, such as guitars and equipment. With the help of every student and the community, we should reach our goal. It is easy to help--simply save UPCs and beverage caps from participation products and send them with your student(s) or drop them off in the container outside the office and I will collect them. There are now over 150 participating products, including cereals, markers, pens and popcorn.

With our economy the way that it is right now, State funding for many schools throughout the nation are lowering or completely dropping funding for such things as music, arts and various academic programs. Labels for Education is stepping up to help in any way that they can to assure that these programs are not dropped.

ReplyDeleteI've a question for you - I've a great-uncle that was in Sharon Springs, Kansas during WWII - and no one know why. Looking at a map - I see your hometown isn't that far from Sharon Springs - so maybe you might know (or know who to ask) if there was a military (Army, Army Air Force, Marines, Navy, or heck, even Coast Guard) presence there during the 1940's? If so... what was it?

ReplyDeleteSharon Springs is approximately 1 hour from us. I did some checking on this question. Come to find out, there was an Army base in the Goodland area. Goodland is just about 30 miles straight north of Sharon Springs. The only other nearby military base was an Air Force or Army base just east of Garden City. Sharon Springs and Garden City would be about 2 hours away from one another so I would be more inclined to think that he was involved with the Army base in Sharon Springs.
If anyone reading this knows more about what I just wrote, please let me know.
