I feel bad about not getting back to you about this sooner! For those of you who live in Wichita County, you already know. The people in other parts of the world, probably do not.
Last Monday night, snow began piling up in much of Western Kansas. It continued for quite some time on Tuesday. This was a beautiful snow! It fell straight to the ground. Though it was predicted to blow and drift, there was little or no wind. The lowest amount of snow that we had was 8 inches. A few people told me that we had more than that. But right here at our home, Stan and I think that it totalled 8 inches. I spoke with a lady yesterday who told me that their farm in Northwestern Kansas only got about 2 inches. They were thankful for even that much. It was just full of moisture that Western Kansas has needed for a very long time. Hopefully, this storm put an end to our drought for the past several years!
I have heard nothing about if this moisture arrived in time to save the wheat crops around here. I certainly hope that it did. For many in Western Kansas, wheat is what provides their livelihood.
By Wednesday, the sun came out and the snow began to melt. It was even nicer yesterday. Very little evidence remains that we received so much snow just a few days ago! At 8:30 this morning, it is almost 45 degrees already. I would guess that we should get up into the 70s today. What little snow is still on the ground should be gone by tonight except that that was piled up by machinery when the streets and highways were cleaned.
Thank You, Lord, for delivering this much needed moisture to us!!! As I have said for a long time now, we need every drop of rain and every flake of snow that we can get...
