For the past few days, authorities have alerted us that a potential winter storm was aimed at Western Kansas. A Watch was established yesterday for Western Kansas. As of just a few minutes ago, that Watch has been upgraded to a Warning which means that the prescribed weather is no longer a watch which means that this particular weather is very possible. The warning means that the weather conditions predicted are now probable.
As of just a few minutes ago, The National Weather Service out of Goodland, Ks has put out a forecast that the heaviest snow will be southeast of the line from Norton to Leoti. It is now probable that people in that area should be expecting a total of 5-10 inches of snow with heavier amounts possible in some locations. Along with that snow, winds are expected to cause major blowing and drifting.
The storm will begin sometime this evening. Be advised that the storm is predicted to begin with ice or sleet. At this time, the authorities are forecasting that the storm will not end until midnight on Tuesday.
So, if you need any groceries, ice melt, shovels, etc., you might want to get those supplies sooner than later.
At this time, I have heard no word of any school closings in this area. Once I hear if Leoti's schools are cancelled for tomorrow, I will post that information right here.
I, for one, am hoping and praying that we get this storm. Some authorities are predicting that this moisture could be just what we've been waiting for to bust this drought that we have been plagued with for so very long.
I thank God every day for each and every drop of rain and flake of snow that he blesses us with.
