A Red Tie Affair

Earlier this afternoon, I received an email from "Events For Good". I just had to post it here. I realize that most of us will probably not be able to make it to Washington, D.C. to attend this great fundraiser but we can help just by purchasing one of the t-shirts listed in the rest of this post. Lets help in any way we possibly can. If this Ef tornado had struck any of us, we would definitely appreaciate any and all support that we could possibly get. Lynn

“Red Tie” event on June 13th to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity and Joplin residents affected by the tornadoes

WASHINGTON, DC – June 8, 2011 – In a city where it seems everyone is from someplace else, local residents and groups have banded together to raise funds and support the residents of Joplin, Missouri affected by the devastating tornadoes on May 22, 2011.

On June 13, 2011, DC area Joplin natives KiKi L’Italien and Kylee Coffman in partnership with Events for Good will host Show Me Support for Joplin: A Red Tie Affair– a Red Themed Fundraiser to support the Joplin area and its residents.

Starting at 6 PM at The Columbus Club in Washington DC’s Union Station, attendees will be treated to a "show down" of DC area chefs taking on their rendition of a Joplin, Missouri favorite – Spaghetti Red from Fred and Red’s in Joplin. The event will also feature remarks from The Honorable Billy Long, congressman from Missouri's 7th district and other legislators, as well as live music, whiskey tasting, raffles prizes and the personal stories of several Joplin residents affected by the tornadoes. Event proceeds will be donated to the Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity International and their efforts to rebuild homes in Joplin, Missouri.

“Our red theme is inspired by a Joplin area institution and puts a twist on the standard black-tie affair of most fundraisers,” said organizer Kiki L’Italien. “We hope everyone will be ‘Dressed To The Reds’ and come out and lend their support.”

Attendees are encouraged to wear anything red – ranging from a completely red outfit to accessories such as ties, shoes, scarves and hats.
“Our hometown was hit hard by this disaster and our family back in Joplin has been helping friends and neighbors start to recover,” said organizer Kylee Coffman. “We couldn’t just sit by here in the DC area and not contribute. Thanks to the generous support of so many, we are honored to be able help out in our own way and pitch in to help those who lost everything in the storms.”

Tickets to the event are available starting at $75 and may be purchased online at http://red4joplin.eventbrite.com/. Event tee shirts are also available at the event or to be shipped in the US starting at $20.
Donations may be made to Red4Joplin through Eventbrite.

Additional groups supporting the fundraiser include Special Events at Union Station, Design Cuisine, Encore Décor, Interactive Magic, Eventbrite, Capital City Symphony, 50-Man-Machine and Nakeva Photography in addition to friends and colleagues of organizers KiKi L’Italien and Kylee Coffman.
